‘Spider-Man’: Miles Morales Dons a Vicious New Venom-Style Symbiote Suit in Marvel’s ‘Dark Ages’

With Venom appearing alongside Peter Parker and Miles Morales in Insomniac’s ‘Spider-Man 2,’ fans are curious if they could see Spider-Man bonded to Venom. However, while Peter is famously bonded with Venom, Miles’ dealings with the symbiote in the Marvel comics are more complicated than a yes or no answer.

The PlayStation Showcase revealed Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2, teasing Venom and the black suit. Fans know that Peter Parker bonded with the Venom symbiote. Marvel also has a habit of bonding nearly every major character to the symbiote at some point. So one question stands: has there ever been a Venom Miles Morales?

Miles had bonded with symbiotes before

Peter Parker, Iron Man, Rocket Raccoon, the Venom symbiote slithered into every corner of Marvel. Surely, a Venom Miles Morales has happened at some point. And maybe it could be referenced in Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2.

Well, the answer is a bit more complicated.

During Marvel’s Absolute Carnage event, dozens of heroes and villains were taken over by symbiotes. While fighting alongside Venom and Scorpion, Miles bonded to the offspring of an ancient symbiote called Grendel.

Sporting six arms and a vicious attitude, Miles’ first symbiote suit turned him monstrous.

The two had a relationship as rocky as any symbiote and host in Marvel. Forcefully separating, willingly rebonding, and taken over by it yet again, Miles was ultimately freed from the symbiote by Eddie Brock.

While Miles’ first encounter with a symbiote was shaky at best, few people outside comic fans care (or even know) the symbiote Grendel.

There has been no Venom Miles Morales for 20 years

Even after landing in the mainstream Marvel Universe, Miles somehow never bonded to the Venom symbiote. He was nearly consumed by it once while trying to protect his mother but never bonded.

At least, not until September 2021.

In July, ScreenRant reported Miles becoming “venomized” in a new comic event, Dark Ages. Dr. Strange opens a portal to stop an electrical beast in the Earth’s core. However, he is killed before he can stop it, the portal remaining open.

With the portal acting as an EMP, it continuously shut down all forms of electricity worldwide. Iron Man’s suits, Ant-Man’s belt, Vision, and other androids, everything goes dark.

Fans of Fox’s X-Men franchise might recognize the villain partially responsible: Apocalypse.

But what does all this have to do with a Venom Miles Morales?

Marvel’s ‘Dark Ages’ could have the first Venom Miles Morales

In the final panel of the first issue, fans got a sneak peek of what came next. Over Apocalypse’s should sat a hulking Miles, baring long red claws, Venom’s signature eyes, serrated teeth, and slimy tongue.

It seemed a Venom Miles Morales finally hit comics.

However, again, it’s complicated.

Marvel’s Dark Ages takes place on an alternate earth. The mainstream Miles Morales still has never bonded with the Venom symbiote.

With Marvel’s habit of bonding nearly every character with Venom, though, the question is less ‘if’ and more ‘when.’ Depending on the direction Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 swings, players might even get a chance to play as Venom Miles Morales.

As fans wait for the second issue of Marvel’s Dark Ages to hit shelves, answers about Venom, Miles Morales, and all the heroes without power are sure to surface.
