Spider-Man: No Way Home was the biggest movie of 2021, and Marvel fans are still talking about Tom Holland’s latest adventure in the Spidey suit. In fact, the movie amassed so much success that Sony is bringing it back to the big screen. That’s right, Spider-Man: No Way Home will return to theaters this fall, this time with an extended cut. Here’s what that means for fans hoping to see it.

Sony to bring ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ extended cut to theaters

Marvel fans looking for a fun way to spend Labor Day weekend can officially add Spider-Man: No Way Home to their schedules. The film’s official Twitter revealed that an extended cut of the sequel will release in U.S. and Canadian theaters on Sept. 2. The post was accompanied by a video of Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield, all of whom fans can expect to see more of in this new edition of the film.

The extended cut has been dubbed Spider-Man: No Way Home: The More Fun Stuff Version. That’s a mouthful, but it tells fans they can expect additional content when the sequel returns.

The video doesn’t offer details about what kind of additions viewers can expect, but we can speculate. After all, No Way Home came out on DVD and Blu-ray this spring. And although it was lacking in deleted footage, it featured behind-the-scenes content that could hold clues.

That’s right, the DVD and Blu-ray release of Spider-Man: No Way Home came as a disappointment to fans looking for deleted scenes — and the news of an extended cut could explain why.

When the film first hit shelves, Redditors questioned the absence of deleted content. And The Direct reports that Sony altered the original marketing, dropping the bonus content from 90 to 80 minutes and removing talk of deleted and extended scenes.

Of course, if Sony was planning to re-release the movie, it makes sense it wouldn’t include such bonuses in the initial release. It’s possible we’ll see an extended digital copy crop up after Spider-Man: No Way Home: The More Fun Stuff Version debuts.

In the meantime, the BTS footage from the original DVD and Blu-ray could hold clues about the extended cut.

What new content can Marvel fans expect from the extended cut?

So, with Spider-Man: No Way Home poised to release new content during its extended cut, what can viewers expect?

As Collider points out, the BTS features from the No Way Home Blu-ray suggest that Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man originally had at least one confrontation with Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin. That’s certainly something fans would love to see, so it could end up in The More Fun Stuff Version.

Additionally, The Direct reported on rumors of a cut scene showing more of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil — a character who only had a brief cameo in the finished version of No Way Home. Again, fans would no doubt be thrilled to see more of this character. That’s especially true with a Daredevil reboot now confirmed for Disney+.

Only time will tell if these things show up in the new version of No Way Home. Whatever The More Fun Stuff Version entails, it’s sure to be met with enthusiasm from fans.

Stay tuned for further details about the upcoming re-release, including when tickets go on sale.
