What is the ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 4 release date?

Star Trek: Discovery has been off the air for only ten months. But after the cliffhanger finale, fans can’t wait to see where Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the USS Discovery’s story go next.

Luckily, the wait is over. Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 premieres on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, on Paramount+. New episodes will drop weekly, on Thursdays, exclusively on the streamer.

Who’s in the ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ cast for season 4?

Most members of the beloved Starfleet crew will return for Star Trek: Discovery Season 4. Sonequa Martin-Green and Doug Jones are back as Michael Burnham and Saru. David Ajala, Anthony Rapp, Wilson Cruz, Mary Wiseman, and Blu del Barrio will also return.

Tig Notaro reprises her role as engineer Jett Reno. And Oded Fehr returns as Fleet Admiral Charles Vance.

After Phillipa Georgiou’s transition to the Mirror Universe in season 3, fans may be wondering if Michelle Yeoh will return to play the fierce Emperor. As of now, there is no indication Yeoh will be in season 4. But the actor confirmed she will reprise the role in the Star Trek spinoff, Section 31 — a series that centers on Georgiou.

“I really do hope to continue to tell all the adventures of Philippa Georgiou because she is such an amazing character that any actor would kill to have this part,” Yeoh told TV Insider. “I know the EPs and writers and my team are still working very hard because we have a lot more stories to tell.”

What will season 4 be about?

The season 3 finale finally put Burnham in the Captain’s chair. And according to Star Trek: Discovery showrunner Michelle Paradise, fans will get to see how Burnham takes on the well-deserved leadership position.

“She’s grown in many ways over the course of these three seasons and in new ways over the course of season three and what does that mean for her now?” Paradise told Comicbook.com.  “And how can she continue to grow moving forward, even as she’s a captain? Those are the things that we get to explore now moving forward that I’m super excited about.”

Paradise also noted that the new season will keep the USS Discovery fleet in the future. And she said that similar to last season, it will also feature strong themes.

“I think season four will absolutely continue the kinds of things we were doing in season three,” she teased. “Those smaller character moments that sometimes mean everything in a scene or in an episode, digging deeper in the relationships, all of those things that were strong areas of focus for us in season three, continue and will always be part of the show.”
