‘Star Wars’ John Boyega who portrays Finn marched for the Black Lives Matter movement

On June 3, 2020, John Boyega joined the Black Lives Matter protests in London’s Hyde Park to speak out about racial injustice following the unjust killings of Ahmad Abrey, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd and many others.

“Black lives have always mattered,” Boyega told the protestors, almost in tears. “We have always been important. We have always meant something. We have always succeeded regardless. And now is the time. I ain’t waiting.”

Boyega also took to social media to speak out after the video of Floyd’s death went viral. The British actor told fans that it’s not enough not to be racist. He called for everyone to take action against the injustices that happen to people of color every day.

“I need you to understand how painful it is to be reminded every day that your race means nothing,” the actor continued. “And that isn’t the case anymore. That is never the case anymore. We are a physical representation of our support for George Floyd.”

‘Star Wars’ Fans speak out citing that Boyega is a true Jedi

Star Wars is literally about a Rebellion fighting against a government Empire, who uses violence and the murder of the people of the galaxy to rule,” one fan tweeted. “Yet people criticize John for peacefully speaking out against police brutality.”

Many fans point out that Boyega is standing up for his people like Finn did for the Resistance in Star Wars. They are calling him “a true to life resistance hero.”

“John Boyega will change things just like his character,” another fan added.

Followers of Boyega see hope in him as they did in Finn, Rey, and Poe in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Others add that “John is the Jedi we need, in-character and out.”

“That’s the most Finn thing he could possibly do,” tweeted another fan when they saw the pictures of Boyega protesting.

Boyega never left social media even when he was harassed

Both Daisy Ridley, who portrays Rey, and Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico) closed their social media accounts after harassment from fans. Boyega, remains one of the only stars from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, to stay active on social media.
