‘Star Wars’: There Is Only 1 Way Sebastian Stan Would Agree to Play Luke Skywalker

Sebastian Stan is often compared to Mark Hamill because of their physical resemblance, and many feel Stan should play a young Luke Skywalker in future 'Star Wars' projects. On 'Good Morning America,' Stan shared what would convince him to play the character.

Over the past few years, fans have pointed out Sebastian Stan‘s resemblance to actor Mark Hamill, who is known for having played Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise.

This resemblance has led some to speculate that Stan could play a young Luke Skywalker in future Star Wars films or TV shows. While promoting The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Good Morning America, Stan shared what it would take for him to play Luke Skywalker.

What would convince Sebastian Stan to play Luke Skywalker

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiered on Disney+ on March 19. Stan appears in the miniseries as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier.

He has also appeared as the popular character in Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter SoldierAnt-ManCaptain America: Civil WarBlack PantherAvengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

To promote The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Stan appeared on Good Morning America on March 25. During the interview, Stan was asked about one day playing a young Luke Skywalker.

“If Mark Hamill called me, personally, to tell me he feels inclined to share this role with me, then I will believe it. Until then, I won’t believe it,” Stan said.

What Mark Hamill thinks of his resemblance to the younger actor

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released on Dec. 15, 2017. Hamill played Luke Skywalker in the film, and before the movie was released he appeared on Good Morning America to promote it.

During the interview, a clip of Stan calling Hamill his father was played.

“Dad, hey,” Stan said. “I think the beard looks good, you know, I was sort of thinking of looking at your picture, but I’m pretty good with it now. Anyway, I just want to let you know I got orange juice and eggs and everything in the fridge so when you get home tonight you should be all good.”

After the clip was shown, Hamill shared his thoughts on his resemblance to Stan.

“Well at first I said, ‘He’s way too handsome to be compared to me. Really?’ Hamill said. “And then they morphed us together and I thought ‘Ooh, that is kind of spooky.'”

On Good Morning America in 2017, Hamill also shared what he thinks about Stan one day playing Luke Skywalker in a Star Wars movie.

“… he’s a wonderful actor. People say ‘Will you support him to be the young Luke Skywalker when they make those movies?'” Hamill said. “And I thought, ‘He doesn’t need me. He’s an accomplished enough actor to get it on his own.'”

He continued, “And I shouldn’t put my thumb on the scale because it’s not my choice, it’s Disney and Lucasfilm. I don’t want to cut short any other potential Luke’s.”

Hamill also added that if the opportunity ever came up, he would love to work with Stan on a project.

“I’d love to work with him,” said Hamill. “Heck, I’d play his father any day.”
