Stevie Nicks Responds to Lindsay Lohan Wanting to Play Her in a Biopic: ‘Over My Dead Body’

Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Lohan may seem like an unusual pairing, but they have a lot in common. They are both stars who have been in the public eye for decades. Lohan is primarily known as an actor in movies like Herbie Fully Loaded and The Parent Trap, but she has also released two studio albums. Nicks is a musician best known for her work with the rock supergroup Fleetwood Mac, but she has also made some television appearances.

There have been rumors that Lohan wants to play Nicks in a biopic. But what does Nicks think of the Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen actor portraying her? Here’s what Nicks said and why.

Lindsay Lohan said she wants to play Stevie Nicks in a film

Rumors of a movie about Stevie Nicks’ life have been circulating for years. She has, after all, lived a very unique life as a female rock and roll star. Nicks is the only female musician who has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice, once with Fleetwood Mac in 1998 and again as a solo artist in 2019.

Actor Lindsay Lohan is allegedly gunning for the role of a younger Stevie Nicks. She has performed covers of Nicks’ song “Edge of Seventeen” live and posted them online. Lohan obviously venerates the rock star, which is probably why she wants to play her in a movie.

Stevie Nicks said Lindsay Lohan will never play her unless she ‘cleans up her life’

Unfortunately for Lohan, Nicks does not seem to return her admiration. Although she doesn’t dislike the actor, Nicks thinks Lohan has some work to do before she could have the role.

In an interview with CNN, Nicks was asked what she thinks about the Mean Girls star portraying her. “She’s never going to,” Nicks said (via HuffPost). “That’s never going to happen unless she cleans up her life and becomes the great actress I feel she can be. Everybody thinks I hate her, and it’s not that at all.”

Nicks was even more direct in a 2009 interview with the New York Times (via HuffPost) when asked about Lohan playing her.

“Over my dead body,” Nicks said. “She needs to stop doing drugs and get a grip. Then maybe we’ll talk.”

The ‘Freaky Friday’ actor and the Fleetwood Mac singer have both dealt with substance addictions throughout their careers

Nicks wants Lohan to be sober, which makes sense considering Nicks’ experiences with drugs and alcohol over the years.

While she was in the early days of performing with Fleetwood Mac, Nicks found herself using cocaine more and more frequently. “All of us were drug addicts, but there was a point where I was the worst drug addict,” Nicks said in 2020 (via Far Out Magazine). “I was a girl, I was fragile, and I was doing a lot of coke… so it was dangerous.”

Nicks sought treatment for her addiction to cocaine in 1986 when a plastic surgeon told her she had burned a hole the size of a coin in her nose and that she would likely die if she continued to abuse the substance. She went to rehab again in 1993 after developing a dependency on the prescription drugs Valium and Klonopin.

Lindsay Lohan has also battled addiction. In May 2007, Lohan was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Two months later, in July 2007, Lohan was arrested again for driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, and possessing cocaine. She identified as an addict in a 2013 interview with Oprah Winfrey
