Stevie Nicks has dated several musicians and has gone on record with who she considers the great loves of her life. On one occasion, though, she used the word “soulmate” to describe another musician, one that she’d never even dated. At the time, she explained why she thought the two were so well-suited for each other. Later, though, she changed her opinion on the other musician.

Stevie Nicks described herself as very career-focused

Nicks has been working as a musician since she was in college. Her unwavering focus on her career has earned her multiple Grammy nominations, two inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and a flush of money from record sales. She has stated that while she’s happy with this success, it does make it hard to maintain romantic relationships

“I find it nearly impossible,” she told High Times in 1982. “Anyone that you meet is going to be in some way in the business. I don’t meet people who aren’t in the business. I don’t go anywhere to meet them. What am I going to do, sit in a bar?”

She shared that her schedule is challenging and she’ll always prioritize her career.

“You make the time for Fleetwood Mac, you make the time for the interviews, you make the time to go to the record company, you make the time to go stop by a radio station, but you don’t make the time for your boyfriend,” she said. “And slowly that creeps into their head, that you are not making the time for them, but you make the time for everyone else.”

She once shared the celebrity who she thought was her soulmate

Nicks believed that her celebrity soulmate was someone who could understand this dilemma.

“Even if a man has the patience of a saint, I doubt if he could really put up with my lifestyle,” she told Record Mirror in 1989, per The Nicks Fix. “How can you have a proper relationship when you’ve got to kiss the guy goodbye and say, ‘I’m sorry honey I’m going away on a world tour for the next five months’? I’m sure Madonna is in a similar type of situation. Madonna and I are kind of soulmates.”

At the time, Nicks asserted her belief that Madonna would have a similar career path to her own.

“She’s a hardworking, spunky little lady and I’m sure she’s going to end up like me,” she said. “I’d love to do a duet with her someday.”

By 2015, though, Nicks acknowledged that their careers had taken different paths. She believed that she could never have the career Madonna does.

“I could never be Madonna,” she told Macleans. “It’s too much work to be a chameleon.”

Stevie Nicks considers herself a romantic

Though Nicks hasn’t named a romantic soulmate, she does embrace the idea of love. She uses her journal to write about romance and believes in the concept of love at first sight.

“I am always a romantic and I’m never averse to the fact that it is possible that you might turn a street corner and walk into somebody that just catches your eye, because it’s happened to me a million times,” she told The Guardian. “So, could I fall in love and run away with somebody at 72 years old? Yeah. It’s probably not gonna happen, but it’s possible.”
