At 72 years old, Stevie Nicks is very much single. Over the years, she’s had several high-profile relationships, but she’s settled into life independently. She assures anyone worried about her solitude that she doesn’t feel lonely at all.

Stevie Nicks says she doesn’t expect to get married

In 1983, Nicks married Kim Anderson, the recent widower of Nicks’ best friend. She later explained that their marriage was formed entirely in grief, not genuine emotion. Anderson and his deceased wife shared an infant son, who Nicks wanted to help raise. After just three months, though, Nicks and Anderson realized that the situation was not working, and they divorced. 

Since then, Nicks has noted that she doesn’t expect to get married again. Still, she won’t close the door to the possibility.

“I am always a romantic and I’m never averse to the fact that it is possible that you might turn a street corner and walk into somebody that just catches your eye, because it’s happened to me a million times,” she told The Guardian. “So, could I fall in love and run away with somebody at 72 years old? Yeah. It’s probably not gonna happen, but it’s possible.”

Nicks has a specific set of guidelines for any man she considers letting into her life. She shared these with her friend Vanessa Carlton.

“‘He must have a good job. He must be happy and satisfied with his own life. You are there to enhance his life, not take away from it, and he is there to enhance your life, not f— it up,’” Carlton shared with Vulture.

She has a great response for anyone who worries about her getting lonely

Though Nicks is open to finding love, she isn’t banking on it. She says that she’s perfectly content in the life she’s made for herself, even though others may worry. Friends, including bandmate Mick Fleetwood, have expressed concern over Nicks’ solitary life.

“Most women would not be happy being me,” Nicks said. “People say, ‘But you’re alone.’ But I don’t feel alone. I feel very un-alone. I feel very sparkly and excited about everything.”

Nicks acknowledges that not everyone would be happy in her position, but it works well for her.

“I know women who are going, like, ‘I don’t want to grow old alone,’” she said, “And I’m like, ‘See, that doesn’t scare me.’ Because I’ll never be alone. I’ll always be surrounded by people. I’m like the crystal ball and these are all the rings of Saturn around me.”

She added that independence is a trait her mother instilled in her from a young age.

“Being able to take care of myself is something that my mom really instilled in me,” she explained. “I can remember her always saying, ‘If nothing else, I will teach you to be independent.’”

Does Stevie Nicks have children?

Though Nicks does not have any children of her own, some of the “rings of Saturn” that surround her are like her children. One of them is Matthew, the son of Kim Anderson. Following the divorce, Nicks maintained a relationship with him, putting him through college and eventually acting as a grandmother to his daughter.

Nicks also has a number of goddaughters and younger celebrity friends like Carlton and Harry Styles. She’s happy to provide all of these people with guidance and companionship.
