While choosing songs for her album 24 Karat Gold, Stevie Nicks had time to reflect on the past. She combed through lyrics and photographs from the early years of her career. While doing this, Nicks learned that she wishes she’d had more appreciation for those years and recommends that everyone spends more time with a bikini on.

Stevie Nicks’ outfits have a unique style

Nicks’ classic style of draped chiffon, bell sleeves, and shawls draw many admirers. Her dramatic, flowing fashion is the inspiration for other musicians and many a Halloween costume. Nicks has explained her inspiration for the unique look.

Prior to joining Fleetwood Mac, Nicks saw a woman in a layered skirt, riding jacket, and platform boots. She had her hair piled up like a Gibson girl.

“This girl obviously had some money, because this was not a cheap outfit,” Nicks told the LA Times. “It was beautiful, and I went, ‘Oh, that’s exactly how I want to look.’”

In a separate interview with the LA Times, Nicks explained that the witchiness of her look isn’t necessarily purposeful.

“In the beginning of my career, the whole idea that some wacky, creepy people were writing, ‘You’re a witch, you’re a witch!’ was so arresting,” she explained. “And there I am like, ‘No, I’m not! I just wear black because it makes me look thinner you idiots.’”

The Fleetwood Mac artist wishes she appreciated her youth

According to Nicks, she spent many of her youthful years worrying about her appearance. She’s frustrated with her younger self for fixating on these things.

“Part of me is feeling extremely old now, and part of me is feeling extremely young,” she told Billboard. “Because I look at these pictures and realize I worried about things that I shouldn’t have been worrying about.”

She added that she avoided certain things because she worried about how she might look.

“I wouldn’t go out to the beach without a sarong from my neck to my ankles. Now I see a picture of myself from that era in a bikini and I’m like, ‘You looked great. And you missed out on a lot of fun vacations, because you were so sure that you were fat.’”

Her advice for the younger generation? Embrace your looks.

“Spend more time in a bikini! All the little girls in their 20s, they’re terrified of looking like they’re not 16. And I’m like, ‘Oh, just get ready for what’s to come.’”

Stevie Nicks still works to stay youthful

Years later, Nicks is effectively working to stay youthful and healthy. She takes meticulous care of her skin in particular.

“I use Crème de la Mer at night. I can afford it,” she told Elle. “Plus, I never go to bed with make-up on and I do a little massage thing two or three times a day.”

She explained that part of her anti-aging routine may have been accidental.

“I stopped laying out in the sun when I was 30,” she shared. “Probably because we were doing drugs all night long and I was sleeping all day.”
