Each season of Stranger Things brought audiences a new monster terrorizing the town of Hawkins, Indiana. It makes sense that Stranger Things Season 4 would also introduce a new one. While there’s no confirmation of what that new monster could be, a few clues hint that the kids are up against a version of spiders from the Upside Down in Season 4.

Vecna likely serves as the main villain in ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4

Each creature fans saw in previous seasons of Stranger Things is based on characters who originated in the game Dungeons and Dragons. Stranger Things Season 1 brought us the Demogorgon. The monster essentially only shared a name with the Demogorgon from Dungeons and Dragons. However, the series’s creators, Ross and Matt Duffer, continued the trend with the main villains in seasons 2 and 3.

The Duffer Brothers previously referred to the monster in Stranger Things Season 4 as something “long-buried that connects everything.” This led many fans to pore over potential villains for the upcoming season before Netflix released the season 4 episode titles. After seeing one titled “Vecna’s Curse,” it became clear that’s probably the monster Eleven and the gang deal with in the upcoming season.

There are several hints the kids face off against Demospiders in ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4

Stranger Things Season 2 introduced the world to Demodogs in 2017. Since then, there haven’t been any offshoots of the Demogorgon similar to the Demodogs. Many assumed the creatures were just baby Demogorgons. In Stranger Things Season 3, the kids fought the Mind Flayer as it ravaged most of Hawkins. It seemed as though the days of monsters like the Demodogs had reached their end, and our heroes would only deal with the big bads in the upcoming seasons. However, after seeing a few different clues, we think there’s a chance for Demospiders in Stranger Things Season 4.

Some Stranger Things merchandise recently hit Amazon, and one of the t-shirts released featured the Creel House. We already know the Creel House plays a significant role in Stranger Things Season 4, but that’s not what caught our attention. Instead, we noticed that it looked similar to octopus tentacles wrapping around the stained glass window. Octopi have eight tentacles, and if they lived on land, they would look like spiders.

Spiderwebs, spiderwebs, and more spiderwebs

Next, the Stranger Things Season 4 poster featuring the Creel House showed several of our characters in the attic. Spiderwebs hang from almost every corner. While we know attics typically serve as a perfect home for spiders, this seems like overkill.

The Stranger Things Season 3 poster showed Will, Dustin, Eleven, Mike, Max, and Lucas standing on Weathertop while fireworks explode overhead. Eleven and Mike hold hands, but she looks back, hinting that something is coming toward the group. Max’s stance in the Stranger Things Season 4 poster imitates Eleven. Plus, just like rats run through the grass and all around her in the season 3 poster, spiderwebs surround the area where Max stands. The rats exploded into jiggly lumps of goo and eventually formed the Mind Flayer in season 3. Do the spider webs hint at potential Demospiders from the Upside Down? We think so.

Sadie Sink and Priah Ferguson used spider emojis in their tweets promoting season 4

The cast remains tight-lipped regarding anything pivotal that happens in Stranger Things Season 4. However, we noticed one minor detail from Sadie Sink and Priah Ferguson. Sink, who plays Max Mayfield, and Ferguson, who plays Erica Sinclair, both used the spider emoji in their tweets promoting season 4. The poster shows Max and Erica taking part in the Creel House plot for the upcoming season, and it seems suspicious that they both used spider emojis.

As for now, no Demospiders have been confirmed or denied by Netflix or the Duffer Brothers. Fans will have to wait and see what monsters the kids face off against when Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 1 drops on May 27, 2022.
