‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Set Photos Hint at Tragic Ending

There are still a few months to go until the premiere of 'Stranger Things' Season 4. But in the meantime, a fan page for the show has been dropping different teasers and updates on social media. The latest post appears to show the team filming at a cemetery, leading some to assume the worst.

Do we need to get the tissues out? Stranger Things Season 4 is coming up and appears to feature some pretty dark stuff.

Amid production on the fourth season, a Twitter fan page for the show has been sharing updates and teasers online, including new images that appear to show the cast and crew shooting at a cemetery. Naturally, fans assumed the worst, including that the fourth season of Stranger Things will feature the death of a major character.

‘Stranger Things’ fans fear a major character will die in the next season

As the website Pop Culture notes, the post was shared on May 25 by the page @StrangerNews11. It includes four different photos of a cemetery, including one of Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers sitting outside of the gate. “SOMETHING ‘MASSIVE’ IS HAPPENING AT HAWKINS CEMETERY..,” the caption said in part.

So far, there hasn’t been any official comment on the photos and whether they’re from Stranger Things Season 4. But fans fear they’re real and that someone will die in one of the next episodes. “Oh god. I’m convinced Steve is going to die,” one person tweeted along with a crying emoji. “I bet it is either Nancy visiting barb or Steve’s funeral or [maybe] them thinking hopper is dead like they did for will,” another person speculated.

If true, it would be the first major character death in the show’s history. While Jim Hopper appeared to die at the end of season 3, it was later revealed that he survived the blast. A teaser trailer shows Hopper imprisoned at a Russian work camp, on the same grounds where a Demogorgon is being kept.

“It’s not all good news for our ‘American’; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human… and other,” show creators Matt and Ross Duffer said in a statement shared with Rotten Tomatoes. “Meanwhile, back in the States, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything…”

They went on to say, “Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime — pray for the American.”

The release date for ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 is still a few months away

Unfortunately, the initial release date for the next season was pushed back due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. But Finn Wolfhard has said he believes the show will arrive sometime in 2022.

“I’m not allowed to tell you when we finish filming, but I can tell you that, though it’s been forever, because we’ve had so much time, the level of effort, interest, and detail that the Duffer brothers have had the time to put into these scripts, and that the actors have had the time to think about their characters, it is gonna be awesome,” actor Maya Hawke added in an interview with Collider.

“And I’m so proud of the work that everyone is doing and I can’t wait for people to see this season. It’s been a long wait, but I think it will be worth it,” she added.
