There hasn’t been much Stranger Things Season 4 content to dig into lately, but there’s one thing fans have noticed. We have yet to see Will Byers or any member of the Byers family in a single teaser or promotional image. This could be chalked up to a couple of different things, but would we really be Stranger Things fans if we didn’t obsess over everything about the show?

Jonathan and Nancy say goodbye in the finale of 'Stranger Things' Season 3 right before the Byers leave Hawkins

Where did audiences last leave the Byers in ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3?

We last left our friends in Hawkins in a bit of a puddle. Tears were flowing as Joyce, Jonathan, and Will packed up and headed out of town for good, with Eleven in tow. So far, fans have gotten a couple of glimpses of Eleven as she struggles to get away from men holding her arms. We also see her in what looks like a flashback of her time at Hawkins Lab. But where is everyone else?

There’s no confirmation on where precisely the Byers moved. From the new character information Netflix released, we know that Jonathan has a new best friend named Argyle, played by Eduardo Franco. He’s described as “a fun-loving stoner who proudly delivers delicious pizza pies for Surfer Boy Pizza.”

There were rumblings at one point right after Stranger Things Season 3 ended that the Byers moved to California, and the name Surfer Boy Pizza is definitely giving us California vibes. Of course, there’s a chance Jonathan is just busy hanging out with his new friend, which might explain his absence. That seems like way too simple of an answer, however.

Where could Will be in ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4?

The only people who can answer that question are legally not allowed to do so. Netflix has some pretty serious non-disclosure agreements cast and crew has to sign. That doesn’t mean we can’t speculate, though.

While there have been no explicit images of Will in the teasers, there’s been at least one very brief shot of a silhouette that could be him. In the teaser released on Aug. 6, 2021, fans saw a person standing in front of a burning car. Because they’re backlit by the fire, we couldn’t get a good look at who it was. However, Will has what we’ll call a very distinct haircut. (Fine. It’s a bowl cut, and we hate it for him.)

In the scene of Eleven struggling to get away, there was no sign of any of the Byers, which would be very unlike Joyce. She’s been the MVP of helicopter moms since Stranger Things Season 2. Could Will have already been taken away by the “bad men,” and that’s why Eleven is trying to get away?

We haven’t seen any of the Byers in any teasers for ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4

Will’s absence in the latest teaser released at Netflix’s global fan event, TUDUM, could be explained pretty easily. The Creel House, where Lucas, Max, Dustin, Steve, and Robin explore, is in Hawkins and Will no longer lives there. The fact that Mike is missing from the group also causes us to wonder if maybe everyone isn’t as safe and sound as we’d like them to be.

Joyce wouldn’t have any reason to be with the group of kids. They typically go off and get in trouble on their own. We have wondered if Joyce is with Murray somewhere, and they’re working on a plan to rescue Hopper. Again, that’s just speculation.

Right now, all we can do is wait. Or we can continue to pore over all of the minute details the showrunners give us until Stranger Things Season 4 premieres in 2022. We have a feeling it will be the latter of the two.
