Succession has quickly become one of HBO’s most popular series, and fans are eager to know what becomes of Logan Roy and the empire he’s built at Waystar Royco. They all have ideas about what they’d like to see before the show is through. And so does Brian Cox. During the 2022 SAG Awards, the actor admitted he’d like to see his character retire and grow cabbages.

When Succession Season 1 opens, it’s difficult to imagine Logan Roy retiring — especially after he refuses to cede control of the company and continues working after his stroke.

However, Succession Season 3 leaves the character in a very different place. He’s officially decided to cut his children out of Waystar Royco, and he’s on the verge of making a deal that would put Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgard) in charge of his company.

Succession Season 4 should hash out the specifics of that arrangement and reveal what Logan intends to do after. Of course, that’s assuming nothing gets in the way of Lukas and Logan’s plans. But on the red carpet for the 2022 SAG Awards, Succession star Brian Cox admitted he’d like to see the Roy family patriarch retire before the show ends.

During a 2021 interview with British GQ, Brian Cox revealed that Succession will probably continue for another season or two. And during the 2022 SAG Awards, the actor was asked if there’s anything he’d like to do as Logan Roy before the series is finished.

Cox told Variety that he’d like to “plan his retirement well.” But what would retirement look like for someone as ambitious and accomplished as Logan Roy? Well, Cox can imagine him planting cabbages, similar to another legendary figure.

“There was a great Roman emperor, Diocles,” Cox explained, “and he was a fantastic Roman emperor. And at the end of his life, he ended up growing cabbages. So, I think that would be a great fate for Logan Roy, that he ended up growing cabbages.”

Growing cabbages certainly sounds more relaxing than dealing with the ups and downs of Waystar Royco. Would Cox himself like to embrace such a lifestyle?

After revealing what he’d like to see from Logan Roy in retirement, Brian Cox was asked by Variety if he planned to grow vegetables following his acting career.

“I couldn’t do anything like that,” he admitted.

Cox has mentioned how different he is from his character in the past. During an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, he was asked if he has anything in common with Logan.

“Just contempt,” he joked. Then he added, “No, I have nothing in common. He’s a complete creation.”

However, in an interview with The New York Times, Cox revealed he does share one quality with Logan.

“There are moments when that demonic [Logan] comes out,” he said. “Because he’s quite angry. That’s something that probably he and I have in common.”

Perhaps some of Logan’s anger would defuse if he embraced Cox’s retirement plans for him. Only time will tell if the character will step away from his work in future episodes.

All three seasons of Succession are currently streaming on HBO Max.
