Superman & Lois, the newest of the Arrowverse shows, premiered on The CW earlier this year. And it enjoyed a largely positive reception. When will its second season debut, and what do we know about it so far?

The series is definitely returning for a second season, due to the popularity of its first season, Its first season’s finale aired its finale in July.

As Looper reports, the series was not included in The CW’s fall 2021 programming. That means it will likely be at least January or February of 2022 before we can expect to see the premiere of Superman & Lois Season 2. The CW has not yet confirmed an official premiere date.

Will there be additions to the cast in ‘Superman & Lois’ Season 2?

Everyone in the main cast is expected to return for the show’s second season. That includes Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent, Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, Jordan Elsass as Jonathan Kent, and Alex Garfin as Jordan Kent.

Additionally, Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana Lang, Erik Valdez as Kyle Cushing, Dylan Walsh as General Sam Lane, and Wolé Parks as John Henry Irons are likely to return, as well. However, that is all subject to change depending on the second season’s storyline.

We have not yet seen major announcements about significant additions to the cast, though there is still plenty of time for that news to be released.

What is the plot of the second season?

There aren’t a lot of official details yet, but we can make some educated guesses. The upcoming season is likely to show us the consequences of Morgan Edge revealing himself as Clark/Kal-El’s half-brother, Tal-Rho.

Tal-Rho’s goal is to resurrect Krypton on Earth. That, of course, is bad news for humanity. So not only will Clark be dealing with the revelation that he has a long-lost sibling, he’ll also probably be fighting to save his adopted homeworld.

Additionally, Tulloch recently tweeted an image of the script for the second season’s premiere episode, titled “What Lies Beneath.” It’s a pretty foreboding title that could easily invite wild speculation among fans.

Will there be a crossover?

This past year was the first not to have an Arrowverse crossover event, due largely to the coronavirus (COVID-19). But that might be about to change. As Comicbook reports, The CW’s president Mark Pedowitz revealed during a call with members of the press back in May that the Arrowverse’s fall programming would have a “crossover-type feel,” though there may not be a traditional crossover, per se.

“We’re talking about other heroes from The CWverse that will come together in each episode,” Pedowitz explained. Of course, Superman & Lois Season 2 will not have premiered by the time this crossover-style programming is set to take place. But given Pedowitz’s description, it seems possible that the show’s characters could make appearances on other series.

The first season of Superman & Lois is currently streaming via The CW.
