Superman & Lois may be a superhero series, but it’s also a family drama that centers on Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and their two twin sons, Jonathan and Jordan. The brothers don’t always get along. But according to series star Alex Garfin, their bond is stronger than they know.

Jonathan and Jordan Kent are adjusting to their new lives in Smallville on ‘Superman & Lois’

As seen earlier this season on the CW series, Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) decide to move the family from Metropolis to Smallville after Martha Kent’s death. Their teen sons, Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) and Jordan (Alex Garfin), are forced to leave their school and friends behind and try to adjust to their new rural life.

But before the boys can get settled in, Jordan begins manifesting the powers he inherited from his dad. And after seeing this, Clark and Lois have no choice but to tell their sons that their father is Superman.

Back in Metropolis, Jonathan was an all-star athlete. But with his newfound powers, Jordan is now taking some of his brother’s spotlight on the Smallville football team.

‘Superman & Lois’ star Alex Garfin explains Jordan and Jonathan bond

Jonathan and Jordan don’t always see eye to eye, especially when it comes to Jordan’s growing powers. But at the end of the day, it’s clear that they always have each other’s backs. And in a recent interview with TV Line, Garfin, who plays Jordan, broke down the twin’s core dynamic and their emotional co-dependencies.

“Right now, Jordan’s powers are still more of a liability than just an ability,” he noted. “In Episode 6, we saw that he thought having powers meant all of his problems were solved. Really, it just pushed people further away.”

“Jonathan’s superpower is his bravery and his love for everyone around him,” Garfin added. “Without Jonathan, Jordan wouldn’t be able to do anything. And without Jordan, I don’t know if Jonathan would be who he is. Even though he doesn’t have powers, he’s often the superstar of the family.”

Fans think Jordan’s powers may keep growing as the season continues

Jordan’s abilities have evolved quite a bit since the beginning of the season. He’s developed super-hearing, heat vision, and immense strength. While he hasn’t gotten the hang of controlling his powers completely, Jordan is beginning to understand the consequences of having these gifts.

We don’t know if Jonathan will ever manifest powers like his brother. But some fans think Jordan’s abilities will continue to grow.

“I’ve noticed that Jordan’s powers seem to activate/grow after he receives a serious injury,” a Reddit user theorized. “First was the fall in the barn (leading to a surge of strength/invulnerability), then he got kicked around at the bonfire and let out his heat vision, then he got beat up by Tag, and it seems to have set off the emergence of super hearing (and a surge in his other powers too). Getting piled on at the Metropolis football game also set off his biggest explosion of heat vision yet.”

The fan also suggested that there’s a possibility the twins’ Kryptonian DNA is triggered after an injury. “Maybe his body patches itself up with its stronger (alien) genetic material making his body more and more Kryptonian and powerful after every incident,” the Redditor added.
