What happened in the ‘Supernatural’ series finale

The Supernatural episode starts with Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) going through a normal morning routine. The brothers then attend Pie Fest. As they eat, Sam comments that Cas (Misha Collins) and Jack (Alexander Calvert) are on his mind.

The two begin investigating a murder and kidnapping case to try and find a pair of kidnapped children. They track down the vampires responsible and manage to capture one. The vampire reveals that every few years they kidnap children for a harvest.

Dean and Sam successfully find the kids and vampires, only to discover their leader is Jenny (Christine Chatelain). They manage to fight the group off, but Dean is impaled and dies after an emotional goodbye to Sam.

Dean goes to Heaven and is met by Bobby (Jim Beaver) who tells him that Cas and Jack helped make improvements to Heaven. Following Dean’s death, Sam goes on to live a normal life. He marries and has a son, and at the end of the episode, he dies of old age. In Heaven, Sam and Dean reunite.

Some fans felt the ‘Supernatural’ finale did not live up to the show’s standards

Immediately following the finale, fans of Supernatural posted their opinions online. For many fans, the series finale of Supernatural was a disappointing conclusion.

“absolutely hated it. the thing happens and then the rest of the episode is just a montage of what’s happening (which was boring!!!!! they didn’t give us anything) just to have that ending???? so empty,” a Reddit user wrote.

“Agreed. I just feel sad and empty. They took any mystery out of it, and I now understand why Jensen Ackles said he had a lot issues with it initially. Dean deserved more than that anti-climactic ending,” another Reddit user wrote. “It also seemed unrealistic that Sam would just go off and live an apple pie life afterwards. Ugh, I don’t know. It just didn’t gel with me and I feel super let down. I kind of wish I hadn’t watched it and just let the series end with 15×19.”

‘Supernatural’: Why the Final 2 Episodes Made Jared Padalecki Cry for a Week

While it does not seem to be a majority, some fans did find comfort in the Supernatural finale.

“In my opinion a happily ever after would have made us all feel good right now, but when we look back on this show in about 5-10 years I feel like this ending will work better as it combines the dark gritty reality of the supernatural universe and a happy ending that everyone wanted,” a fan wrote on Reddit.

Fans are upset Cas was not in the series finale

In the 18th episode of the final season, “Despair,” Cas experiences a moment of true happiness after confessing his feelings for Dean. He then sacrifices himself for Dean and falls into the Empty. Cas’ death caused outrage as it fell into the trope of killing off gay characters after they experience happiness.

Because of this, some fans were hopeful that Cas might appear in the series finale. However, Cas is only mentioned a few times in the episode.

One Reddit user wrote, “they didn’t even show us sams wife?!?! like what? didn’t even bring cas back either???”
