Tony Vlachos’ ‘Survivor’ gameplay is strong but hidden in season 40

The 45-year-old police officer from Allendale, New Jersey, was ready to fly under the radar this season. After playing Survivor: Game Changers, Tony knew things had to be different this time. In that 33rd season of Survivor, he told everyone he was searching for idols, he dug a spy bunker and played erratically early on. He was an easy target and went home second.

So far, in Winners at War, he displayed hysterical antics during several episodes, but it was not related to strategy. Tony constructed an unsteady ladder to fetch coconuts and helped Sandra Diaz-Twine to slay a shark. He brought back his Spy Shack once, but luckily Kim Spradlin-Wolfe and Sandra reigned him in. Tony voted with his tribemates weekly and didn’t make any game-changing moves, up to this point.

During episode 10, he tried to talk Sarah Lacina into voting for Tyson Apostol. However, when she pushed, Tony agreed to vote with her. He felt very safe at tribal council with his very first immunity necklace win around his neck. In a wild turn of events, Tyson was sent to the Edge of Extinction, but viewers couldn’t tell if it was because of Tony’s pushing.

The ‘Survivor: Winners at War’ preview for Episode 11 shows Tony might find an idol

“I’ve been patient long enough, now I have the opportunity to flip-flop,” Tony says in the preview for this week’s episode 11 of Survivor: Winners at War.

The promo also shows Tony running through the jungle with his bag. It ends with him yelling, “Yes!”

“The description says that someone who has played it cool (Tony) is on the search for an idol,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “The preview shows him running with his bag and looks to be happy and celebrating. So, he definitely finds an idol or gets an advantage.”

Fans agree that there’s no other reason why Tony would be so happy. If he didn’t find a hidden immunity idol on his own, he might have one from an Edge of Extinction player. Those players who were already voted out can sell advantages to castaways still in the game in exchange for fire tokens.

‘Survivor’ fans contemplate other reasons why Tony is so excited

“He could be stoked about putting together a plan to blindside someone,” added another fan. “But hopefully, it’s an idol.”

From the preview, it seems that Tony might be excited about both an idol and the plan to blindside someone.

“Tony will likely end up winning exactly like his first season,” another Redditor wrote. “He is going to find idols, play both sides, probably get an advantage with his fire tokens and maybe win another immunity challenge.”

Many Survivor fans are hoping their Tony dreams come true. Find out if they are correct when Survivor: Winners at War airs Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
