Swizz Beatz and Timbaland created ‘Verzuz’

Live music is one of the driving forces of the music industry, and when the pandemic broke out in early 2020, artists everywhere were forced to reevaluate how they can reach audiences with the power of technology.

Swizz Beatz and Timbaland stepped in to create Verzuz, a series that pits two artists or producers against each other as they go head-to-head to determine who has more hit songs in their discography. It’s more of a friendly competition than anything else, especially as the pandemic has forced everyone to think about their relationships with the people they know.

The first Verzuz battle was between Swizz Beatz and Timbaland themselves and has since gone on to feature icons such as Snoop Dogg, Patti LaBelle, and the late DMX.

Swizz Beatz’s first song he ever produced was for DMX, so having him come to the Verzuz stage was a full-circle moment. In the decades since then, Swizz Beatz has been one of the most prolific producers in hip-hop. He’s been behind songs by Jay-Z, Eve, and even his wife, Alicia Keys. He’s also a rapper himself and has released solo singles and albums in the past.

In addition to music, Swizz Beatz has branched off into other business ventures. He’s had sneaker collaborations and is an avid art collector and painter. In 2019, it was announced that he and Keys wanted to transform a property in upstate New York into a performing arts center and recording studio.

Swizz Beatz has quietly amassed an impressive personal fortune over the years, thanks to his work with some of the music industry’s biggest players. According to WealthyGorilla, his net worth is estimated to be $150 million in 2021.
