Sydney Sweeney is certainly having a moment. Just yesterday, it was announced that she will be starring opposite Dakota Johnson in Sony’s Madame Web. Her introduction into the Marvel universe comes on the heels of her standout performance in Euphoria Season 2. But if you think that the Washington native is focusing exclusively on acting, you’d be grossly underestimating her. The young actor recently revealed that she’s considering going to law school.

Sweeney is a bit of a jill-of-all-trades. Though she’s finding success as an actor, she is also pursuing other interests at full throttle. In 2020, she launched her production company, Fifty-Fifty Films, to fulfill her desire to work behind-the-scenes in the entertainment industry. The White Lotus alum is also extremely athletic and is a wakeboarder and trained MMA fighter. Furthermore, she is passionate about rebuilding her vintage cars. And, when she’s not busy acting, she’s working toward her college degree in entrepreneurship.

Sydney Sweeney is considering attending law school

But it seems that a Bachelor’s degree may not be enough to quench Sweeney’s thirst for knowledge. In an interview with CR, the actor confessed that she has interest in earning her J.D. “I would love to go to law school,” The Players Table producer revealed when asked about her personal and professional aspirations. It seems that Sweeney comes by her love of law honestly. One of the actor’s parents actually has experience in the legal world.

“My mom was a lawyer and I think she is one of the smartest people ever,” Sweeney shared. “I would like to be maybe as smart as her if possible. I love knowledge, reading, and school. I did AP Psychology in high school and I loved it, so I used to think I was going to go to school and study psych. I think if I had the time and the chance, I would study everything. I would go to school for psych, for law, for medicine, for anything and everything.”

The Marvel star studied fake laws to prepare for ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’

Considering Sweeney is a self-proclaimed nerd, it’s not surprising that she’s interested in law. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class in high school. The actor even takes a very cerebral approach to prepare for all of her roles. For example, she studied fake laws so that she could bring child bride, Eden, to life in The Handmaid’s Tale.

“I really studied the laws and structure of Gilead in order to work out the daily life of Eden, and what she would learn growing up,” Sweeney explained to Stylist. “She’s still a teenager, so I wanted to keep that sense of curiosity, but she’s been raised to dream and aspire to be a good wife or a mother and doesn’t really know anything else. She works on blind faith alone: others may judge the regime, but she doesn’t know any different – and I wanted the audience to be able to see that.”

Sweeney gets candid about her goals for the future

Clearly, Sweeney isn’t willing to put herself in a box. Though she loves acting, that’s just the tip of the iceberg for her. “I would love to direct something and continue working on (hopefully) important projects,” she told CR. “I have a lot of dreams. I would like to remodel and build houses. I would love to learn languages. It’s endless. That is a heavy question, I’ve got a lot of things I want to do in life.”
