Are Taylor Swift and Emma Stone Still Friends? The Actor Reveals Her Favorite Song From ‘Folklore’
Musician Taylor Swift has had many famous friends throughout her career. From fellow artists like Selena Gomez to models like Martha Hunt, she’s stayed close to many of them for years. But is Swift still close with actor Emma Stone, who she befriended more than a decade ago?
Emma Stone and Taylor Swift go way back
Stone was an original member of Swift’s “girl squad.” They were photographed together at events as two rising stars in the late ’00s. Swift attended the premiere of the actor’s first film in the lead role, Easy A, in 2010, as her date. The next year, Stone presented the singer with a prize at the Teen Choice Awards.
“My friends are amazing and I’m so thankful to have them, [but] the ones that are like sisters to me are Selena Gomez and Emma Stone,” Swift told PopSugar in 2011 shortly after the TCAs. “They can predict my thoughts; I’ve known them for so long it’s really cool to have friends that are that close.”
The two celebrities may not be as close as they once were
Friendships change over time. Over the few years that followed, Swift and Stone remained close but were spotted together less and less as their careers grew. Stone was at one of Swift’s infamous July 4th parties in 2014, but she wasn’t part of the singer’s star-studded “Bad Blood” music video that year.
More recently, Swift has spoken about the media attention around her group of friends. “In my twenties I found myself surrounded by girls who wanted to be my friend,” she told Elle in 2019. “So I shouted it from the rooftops, posted pictures, and celebrated my newfound acceptance into a sisterhood.”
Did Stone introduce Swift to Joe Alwyn?
Swift has never clarified to the media exactly how she and actor Joe Alwyn met. But from clues in interviews and her music, many have deduced that they first interacted at the 2016 Met Gala. At the time, Swift was dating DJ Calvin Harris, and after they broke up, she was seen with actor Tom Hiddleston.
When reports of Swift’s relationship with Alwyn broke in 2017, tabloids like the Daily Mail drew a connection from Stone to Alwyn, both of whom had been announced as starring in the film The Favourite. But Alwyn’s casting wasn’t reported until after he and Swift began dating. However, Swift and Stone saw one another at the premiere.

In November 2020, Stone did press for her animated sequel, The Croods: New Age. Because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the usual press tours aren’t happening. However, Stone answered questions sent in virtually from kids for People. One child asked her what her favorite song of Swift’s is.
“That’s really, really hard,” Stone replied. “Because I like so many of them. That’s almost impossible, actually. She has a new album that just came out called Folklore, and I really love this song, ‘August’ right now. I was just listening to it earlier today. But I like so many of them, so it’s very hard to choose.”
