Taylor Swift received three Grammy nominations

Swift received three nominations for the 2020 Grammy Awards. Her album Lover received a nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album. She received a nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance for her song “You Need to Calm Down.”

Swift’s songwriting skills are renowned, and she is the sole writer for the title track of Lover. Swift received a nomination for Song of the Year for the song, “Lover.”

She single-handedly wrote the song and when the nomination was announced her name was the only one read as the artist and songwriter. Even though the Recording Academy did not nominate Lover for Album of the Year, fans still celebrated Swift’s three nominations. Fans applauded Swift’s Song of the Year Grammy nomination.

“LOOK AT ALL THE WRITERS ON ALL THE SONGS OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS THEN THERES JUST ‘Lover – Taylor Swift’ #GRAMMYs,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

Taylor Swift did not receive a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year

Taylor Swift released her seventh studio album, Lover, in August 2019. The album did not receive a nomination for Album of the Year, and Variety listed it as one of the biggest snubs.

“Swift, a two-time album of the year winner… fell from grace with the Grammys with her last album, ‘Reputation,’ which only got one minor nomination,” wrote Chris Willman in Variety. “That she got three this year for ‘Lover’ could be seen as an uptick from that, but it’s not much of one for a project that was expected to compete in all the top categories.”

The Los Angeles Times also referenced Swift not receiving an Album of the Year nomination for Lover as a snub.

“Few artists in contemporary music have mastered the art of the album rollout as, well, masterfully as Taylor Swift, and this year’s model, ‘Lover,’ was as flawless as ever,” wrote Randall Roberts. “The album of the year slight was made more acute because, as the year’s top seller, ‘Lover’ came with quite the pedigree.

Fans expressed their disappointment about the Grammy nominations

After the nominations announcement, Swift’s fans shared their disappointment on social media. Swift most recently won Album of the Year with her album 1989. Her last album Reputation did not receive an Album of the Year nomination.

“So, the #GRAMMYs have snubbed Taylor Swift’s #Lover for ‘Album Of The Year’ again for the 2nd year in a row. SWIFTIES WE MARCH AT DAWN,” a fan tweeted.
