On Feb. 27, Taylor Swift released a music video for her song “The Man.” As always, the music video was filled with Easter eggs, and it also marked Swift’s directorial debut. After the music video premiered, Swifties discussed what they loved on social media.
Fans love Taylor Swift’s range
Swift not only directed the music video for “The Man,” she starred in it. With the help of prosthetic makeup, a wig, and a beard, Swift transformed into Tyler Swift. Throughout the music video, she showed how she would be able to go through life if she was a man.
Given her work in music, her acting roles in her past music videos, and her roles in movies, fans took the time to compliment Swift on her range of talent.
“Now if we’re talking about the range… #TheManMusicVideo,” a fan tweeted.
“The way @taylorswift13 has RANGE @taylornation13 #TheManMusicVideo,” another fan tweeted.
The singer called out double standards with the music video for ‘The Man’
One thing is for sure, the music video for “The Man” makes a statement. With the music video, Swift explored the double standards women face every day. Swift incorporated scenes from The Wolf of Wall Street, alluded to the double standards Serena Williams faced against an umpire, and more.
“She loved glitter, talked about double standards and y’all told her to shut up and stop playing the victim. So now she proved that double standards are a real problem, she showed how society puts a blind eye on men and all the blames on women. Iconic. #TheManMusicVideo,” wrote a Twitter user.
“So many people out there don’t understand what Taylor was doing with #TheManMusicVideo. She created a male character that is a conglomeration of different men she & us have all encountered. Are you offended? Welcome to a woman’s world,” one fan tweeted.
“A man can have 10 women at once and he’s THE man. But @taylorswift13 has had 10 relationships in the last 15+ years and she still gets shamed for it. The number of double standards captured in this video is incredible. #[email protected],” a fan wrote on Twitter.
Taylor Swift called out Scooter Braun in the music video for ‘The Man’
“The Man” is a song from Swift’s most recent album Lover, which is the first album Swift owns the masters to. The masters to her previous albums were sold by Scott Borchetta to Scooter Braun. The music video for “The Man” contains several subtle digs at Borchetta and Braun. At the end of the video, the closing credits made the point to show that Swift owns the song, unlike her work that Braun owns.
“WAIT I JUST REALISED THE GRAFITI SPELLS TAYLOR’S DISCOGRAPHY HER 6 ALBUMS THAT ARE OWNED BY SCOOTER ARE THERE AND THE SIGN THAT SAYS ‘MISSING IF FOUND PLEASE RETURN TO TAYLOR SWIFT’ AND THE NO SCOOTER SIGN ON THE OTHER SIDE #TheManMusicVideo,” a fan wrote on Twitter.
“DIRECTED BY TAYLOR SWIFT WRITTEN BY TAYLOR SWIFT OWNED BY TAYLOR SWIFT STARRING TAYLOR SWIFT #TheManMusicVideo,” one fan tweeted.
