Ted Lasso made waves during the pandemic and many fans can’t wait for the Apple TV+ series to return. The show, which started as a comedic promo for NBC Sports, has become a full-fledged phenomenon earning 20 Emmy nominations in 2021. Here’s everything we know about Ted Lasso Season 3 so far.

‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3 will reportedly have 12 episodes 

According to Parade, filming for Ted Lasso Season 3 started on. Mar. 6, 2022. Per Jason Sudeikis, who plays the show’s titular role, Apple has asked for 12 episodes for season 3. 

The first season of Ted Lasso had 10 episodes. Apple ordered 12 episodes for Ted Lasso Season 2. 

‘Ted Lasso’ cast returning for season 3 

Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, and Hannah Waddingham will return to their roles in the new season. Plus, fans can expect to see Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, Nick Mohammad, Jeremy Swift, and Phil Dunster in new episodes of Ted Lasso Season 3. 

Season 3 will dive into ‘backstories’ of more characters

Little is known about the plot of Ted Lasso’s third season. But producers Liza Katzer and Kip Kroeger teased the new season on the PGA Awards red carpet. 

“I think it’s just more of what everyone loves and what has worked and just going deeper into the characters,” said Katzer (via Deadline). “It’s deeper into the backstories,” Kroeger added. “You know, we’re going to get a little more information about where they came from.”

In the season 2 episode “Beard After Hours,” fans got a glimpse at Coach Beard dealing with a loss. Season 3 could feature more episodes like this one.

“Knowing those guys there’s bound to be a bunch of surprises, things you didn’t see coming, some curveballs in there,” producer and director Declan Lowney chimed in. 

‘Ted Lasso’ might get a season 4

As Kroeger revealed to Deadline, the plan was always to do three seasons. But a fourth season of Ted Lasso isn’t impossible.

“We don’t know,” Katzer admitted of the fate of the Apple TV+ series. “We hope it goes on … Initially we were down for three, but it’s up in the air at the moment.”

In the second season of Ted Lasso, fans met Dr. Sharon Fieldstone (Sarah Niles), a sports psychologist hired to help A.F.C. Richmond out of their proverbial rut. Early in the show’s sophomore season, Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernandez) accidentally kills the team’s mascot, leading him to question soccer as a career. 

Meanwhile, Nathan’s (Mohammed) promotion to assistant coach inspires him to look down on Charlie (Will Hisock), who took over his old job as equipment manager. And retired player Roy, who is happy in a relationship with Keeley, is coaching his niece’s peewee football team.

In the end, the team gives themselves over to Dr. Sharon, who helps everyone — including the hesitant Ted Lasso — make progress on their mental health. Other notable highlights from season 2 include Keeley and Rebecca’s growing friendship and Rebecca’s relationship with Sam Abisanya (Toheeb Jimoh). The Ted Lasso Season 2 finale showed A.F.C. Richmond getting promoted back to the Premier League where they’ll play West United Ham, the team owned by Rebecca’s ex, Rupert Mannion (Anthony Head), and its new coach, Nate.
