Teen Mom 2 fans will remember the dramatics of the Season 4 reunion. Things were tense between Kailyn Lowry and Jo Rivera’s then-girlfriend Vee Torres, to put it lightly.

In Lowry’s 2014 book, Pride Over Pity, she writes about what was going through her mind during the particularly messy reunion.

Kailyn Lowry felt ‘misunderstood’ during the Season 4 reunion

“The environment was claustrophobic and stuffy. I was frustrated because I felt pressured to meet Jo’s girlfriend on stage. I felt like I was being pushed into a corner and my words and feelings were misunderstood,” she wrote.

She says, going into the evening, she “did not want a confrontation.” She didn’t want any interaction with Torres at all, actually.

“Everyone is entitled to his or her own feelings so why couldn’t I just be left alone? I was portrayed as a jealous, psycho ex. I felt I had been manipulated and it annoyed me to the point where I had to get up to leave the set for breathing room. Filming reunion shows is stressful and emotional enough. This was too much for me. I didn’t need anyone to play devil’s advocate. I already felt enough pressure from this nonexistent relationship I had with Jo’s girlfriend,” she wrote.

Lowry writes that her feelings were unfairly judged and that there wasn’t “enough consideration of the source of those emotions.”

“From the outside it appeared I was just jealous of her for no reason. The show didn’t portray her smoking weed or drinking, the way I thought it appeared online,” Lowry continued. “Although Jo denied that she did, that was the reason I held animosity toward her. I just want people to understand that these perceptions of mine were the real reason I had for not liking her or wanting her in Isaac’s life.”

Why Kailyn Lowry initially didn’t like Vee Torres

When Lowry first started getting a sense of Torres, she was worried she’d be a bad influence on Isaac.

“She posted pictures online of herself wearing a gas mask and smoking out of what looked like a bong. It seemed this was beyond an anxiety reducing self-medicating pastime. I was afraid it was a bad habit my son could potentially pick up one day. There was no way I wanted Isaac to be around weed or alcohol. I understand the full, detrimental repercussions. All I asked of Jo was that he keep Isaac away from it,” wrote Lowry.

At the time, Lowry felt pretty passionately about her feelings towards Torres. It’s why the Season 4 reunion was so charged for her.

Today, Lowry and Torres are friends. In fact, it seems Lowry’s on better terms with Torres than she is with Rivera these days.
