In May 2020, the couple told fans of The Bachelor that Burnham Luyendyk suffered a missed miscarriage. This is when the embryo has died but there were no physical symptoms of a miscarriage.
On Dec. 19, 2020, Luyendyk and Burnham Luyendyk announced that they were expecting. That day, the two posted a vlog on YouTube where they discussed how they felt about the pregnancy.
“Earlier this year, we had a miscarriage and we’ve had some troubles in that area,” Burnham Luyendyk said after taking a pregnancy test in the video. “We were really, really excited about welcoming a new baby to our family. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out at the time but I just took a pregnancy test and I think it might be positive.”
In the vlog, the two explained that while they filmed the video when Burnham Luyendyk was “one day shy of 12 weeks,” they planned to wait to announce it publicly. Burnham Luyendyk also admitted she found this pregnancy to be nerve-wracking.
“I had a couple of freak-outs because I feel like I have a little bit of PTSD from the miscarriage that we had earlier this year. Anytime my extreme nausea went away, I was like, ‘Oh my God, are they OK?’ Call my doctor crying like, ‘What’s happening? Are they OK?’ She was like talking me off the ledge,” Burnham Luyendyk said.

The couple posted a gender reveal vlog
On Jan. 19, Luyendyk and Burnham Luyendyk published Instagram posts from their gender reveal photoshoot. The two also posted a new vlog showing fans of The Bachelor a behind-the-scenes look at the photoshoot and the moment they figured out they were having a boy and a girl.
“Since we found out we were having twins I’ll like randomly break down and start crying,” Burnham Luyendyk said in the gender reveal vlog. “Just because I’m so grateful. I like feel bad even saying it, but I just feel like we’re so lucky. I’m just like really grateful.”
