Bachelor Nation fans have been buzzing about Heather Martin and Matt James ever since the former contestant showed up in an early season teaser. But, how did the current lead really feel about the surprising appearance? Recently, Matt seemingly hinted that he sends Heather home on The Bachelor — here’s what he said.

As you may remember, Heather is from Colton Underwood’s season of The Bachelor. Heather is also good friends with The Bachelorette’s Hannah Brown, as they were both on the same cycle. But, despite Heather and Matt’s connections within The Bachelor franchise, the two reality stars never dated.

“I have met Heather before, [but] I had no relationship with her,” Matt told Us Weekly in February 2021. “But, she does have a relationship with one of my good friends Hannah Brown. I was just as shocked to see her as everyone else was when she arrives, and I think it makes for a very interesting conversation.”

Matt James says it was ‘tough’ when Heather Martin came in ‘The Bachelor’ Season 25 Episode 6

While Matt and Heather may not have deepened their connection before filming The Bachelor, Heather hoped that they could start something on the ABC reality series. In the season preview, the former contestant was spotted crying. But, she thought that Matt was “worth it.”

“This is an impossible situation,” Heather said. “Still, I feel like Matt’s worth it.”

That said, Matt seemed to indicate that he doesn’t end up with Heather on The Bachelor. In an interview with The Bachelorette’s Rachel Lindsay on Extra, Matt was asked about Heather’s appearance. At first, the current bachelor revealed that he enjoyed the first group of new women. But, Heather’s surprise visit was “tough” because he already started forming connections with the other contestants. So, it seems likely Heather showed up too late.

“I thought that we were done with adding people to the journey,” Matt said. “It was a pleasant surprise the first time because we were only a week or so into getting to know everybody. And you saw how I hit it off, almost instantaneously, with Michelle [Young].”

He continued, “At this point, I’ve established relationships. I’m really trying to dive in with these women and see if it’s worth pursuing and someone who I could spend the rest of my life with. To have someone pull up toward the tail end of what’s supposed to be… kind of coming to a decision, that’s tough.”

For now, Bachelor Nation fans will have to wait and see what happens to Matt and Heather. But, Heather explained why it took her so long to meet Matt at the Nemacolin Resort in Pennsylvania. At the start of The Bachelor Season 25 Episode 6, Heather explained that she couldn’t let Matt get engaged before shooting her shot. That said, her appearance was truly a surprise.

When Heather met Chris Harrison, the host revealed that he had to ask whether the 25-year-old could join the season. Then Heather had to quarantine for a few weeks because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Regardless, it seems Heather’s attempt to spark something with Matt does not go as planned. According to Bachelor Nation spoiler blogger, Reality Steve, Matt will eliminate Heather after a few hours.

“Matt sends her home the same day she arrives,” Reality Steve wrote.

The Bachelor Season 25 with Matt James airs on Monday nights on ABC.
