The Bachelor star Nick Viall congratulated his ex-girlfriend, Vanessa Grimaldi, on her engagement. However, fans point out that the comment “sounds a little jealous.” The former winner of Viall’s season announced on her Instagram on Aug. 10, 2020, that her boyfriend, Josh Wolfe, popped the question the night before.

What happened with Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi?

On the 21st season of The Bachelor, Nick Viall courted thirty women. He eventually narrowed his contestants down to 29-year-old Vanessa Grimaldi from Montreal, Quebec, and 25-year-old Raven Gates from Hoxie, Arkansas.

Viall proposed to Grimaldi during the final rose ceremony, which aired March 13, 2017. She was the first Canadian contestant to be named the winner of the show. However, the two later ended their engagement only months later — on Aug. 25, 2017. A source told Entertainment Online that the two had differences from day one.

“Moving to Los Angeles or elsewhere long term was never really on the table for her,” a source explained. “And, unfortunately, it seems as though Nick never had any intention of moving to Montreal.”

Family means a lot to Grimaldi, and she was not happy with her move to live with Viall in LA. Another source added that she did not love being in the limelight. The two parted ways amicably.

‘The Bachelor’ star Nick Viall congratulated ex Vanessa Grimaldi on Instagram

When the former Bachelor lead, Viall, saw that his ex announced her engagement, he quickly commented on his congratulations. However, fans believe the reply was too much.

“Well, thank God I followed you back a week ago to hear this news,” Viall wrote on Grimaldi’s engagement photo. “Congrats to you two. Lucky guy.”

Fans were not happy about the former Bachelor’s need to talk about himself before congratulating his ex-girlfriend.

“Inserting himself into her engagement post and mentioning that he deigned to ‘follow her back’ is one of the most Nick Viall things I have ever seen,” one fan wrote on Reddit.

Other fans quickly chimed in, “It’s not about you, Nick!”

Viall recently interviewed several of his ex-girlfriends for his new show on Patreon. After the podcast with Grimaldi, the two followed each other on Instagram. However, fans are not pleased that the star insisted on bringing this up in his ex’s very special engagement post.

Grimaldi did not reply to Viall’s comment, but many fans chimed in

“We love a supportive ex,” one fan replied to Viall on Instagram.

It looks like not everyone thought the comment was too focused on the Bachelor.

“Typical!” another Redditor added. “He sounds a little jealous or at least wants/hopes to be invited to the wedding.”

Maybe, Viall is looking for an invitation to the wedding after all.
