Chris Harrison is a staple in the Bachelor universe. Not only is he an executive producer on the shows in the franchise but he is also a host, counselor to the leads, and pretty much the glue that holds the franchise together. But there have been rumors that Harrison is preparing to transition out of his very visible role and that Wells Adams could be being groomed to take over for him.

People have taken over for Chris Harrison before

When Clare Crawley and Tayshia Adams’ season of The Bachelorette had to be filmed in Palm Springs, there were strict quarantining guidelines that the cast and crew had to follow due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. When Harrison left the set to take his son to college, it put his position as host in jeopardy. When he returned, he was informed that he could not film.

“The moment he got back, Chris was told he could not set foot back on the set until he went through another 14-day quarantine,” a source told Us Weekly. “The show’s contestants and crew all had to quarantine on the property for 14 days prior to the cameras rolling. But it didn’t dawn on Chris he’d have to do it all over again if he simply left to take his kid to college.”

According to sources, he was annoyed that he wouldn’t be able to resume his job.

“Chris was not happy they were going to make him quarantine in Palm Springs for two weeks without working,” the source continued. “He insisted he simply dropped his son off in his dorm room and left, social distancing the entire time.”

Former Bachelorette JoJo Fletcher stepped in for Harrison until he was allowed to film again.

Is Wells Adams replacing Chris Harrison on ‘The Bachelor’?

Wells first appeared on Fletcher’s season of The Bachelorette. He has since become a staple in Bachelor nation as the resident bartender on Bachelor in Paradise. So, when news broke that Harrison was building a home in Texas, people wondered if that meant that he would be retiring and speculated that Wells would take over.

“It’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard,” Wells told People of the rumors.  “First of all, Chris isn’t going anywhere. He’s got the best job in Hollywood. Tom Hanks would agree that he has the best job in Hollywood. He’s not going anywhere.

“And I know that everyone’s like, well, he’s moving to Texas. Guess what, everybody?” he continued. “It’s a travel show. He can live in Timbuktu and still do the show. They only film a week and a half in Agoura Hills. The rest of the show is off everywhere else.”

Wells isn’t in any sort of rush to take on Harrison’s job.

“He’s not going anywhere nor do I want him to go anywhere,” the bartender said. “He’s the cornerstone of Bachelor Nation. And I don’t wish that upon anybody trying to fill those shoes.”

But he is open to co-hosting with Harrison.

“I like just being the co-host at these silly athletic dates,” he told the outlet. That seems more up my alley.”
