Last night was one of the most dramatic episodes of Matt James‘ season of The Bachelor yet. Early frontrunner Sarah Trott went home after a number of altercations with the rest of the women. But Trott’s relationship with James seemed so strong that it left some fans to wonder if that was truly the last we will see of Trott.

Matt James and Sarah Trott had an early connection

From the beginning of the season, Trott shared intimate details about her personal life with fans. In her intro package, she revealed that her father has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). When he was diagnosed, Trott left her career in journalism to take care of her father.

“I was 19 when we got that diagnosis and it was completely shocking,” she said. “Like, how do you wrap your head around that, your dad has a terminal illness? Fortunately, he’s still alive and he’s still in good spirits.”

On her one-on-one date with James, she struggled to find the right time to tell him about her situation back home.

“I could tell that Sarah was struggling with something,” James said. “She’s slow getting started, but I need her to be open and vulnerable.”

When she did finally share her story, James was impressed with how she put her family first.

“I can’t think of a more selfless act,” he told her. “And the fact that she should be home with her pops right now, with her family, and she’s here with me having dinner — I don’t even know what to say. It’s an honor.”

Sarah Trott’s issues with the women

Trott started this week off on bad terms with the other women after she fainted at the last rose ceremony. At first, the women were supportive but when it turned out that nothing was medically wrong with Trott, they began to wonder if she had done it for attention.

Then on this week’s group date, the women chosen were tasked with writing steamy stories about fantasies they had with James. While watching from the audience, Trott started to get upset.

“I was on such a high after our one on one date, and it’s such a wake up call and reminder that he has these relationships with other women,” she told the cameras. “I knew he’d be dating other women and there was potential of seeing him being romantic and intimate with other women, but I just didn’t know it was going to be this hard.”

Later, she interrupted the group date to tell James how she was feeling, which rubbed the rest of the women the wrong way. She tried to apologize to the women on the group date but they still didn’t understand why she needed to interrupt.

Over the next few days, Trott largely stayed in her room to avoid the other women. When she finally did come out, a few of them, including Victoria Larson, gave her a hard time and told her that they did not forgive her and wanted nothing to do with her for the rest of their time in the house.

Will Sarah be back?

In the end, Trott decided to leave. In a moving conversation with Katie Thurston, Trott revealed that her dad may only have weeks to live. Ultimately, she wanted to be home with him rather than deal with the drama in the house.

When Trott told James that she was leaving, he told her that he would continue to think about her. Their connection was strong even as he walked Trott out. The two continued to hold eachother all the way to the car.

Though some fans would like to see Trott return after spending time with her family, it doesn’t seem like she does. She documented her return home with an Instagram post on Nov. 23, 2020. “Honeyyy I’m home!” she captioned the selfie. She has since posted several holiday photos with her family that make it seem very doubtful that she returned after leaving the show.
