‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ star said he loves playing his character

Sean Kanan has been playing Deacon Sharpe on The Bold and the Beautiful, off and on, since 2000. And in a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, he revealed that he loved the fact that so many people continued to cheer for his character.

“That is one of the things I love so much about working at [the show],” he said. “The people I work with are wonderful, and I really feel like they care about me as a person which, of course, goes both ways. I’ve worked at other places and that’s not always the case.”

Though Kanan didn’t specify which show didn’t have a familial-type atmosphere, he did say that he loved working with his soap opera friends. And he, especially, said that he liked working with Kimberlin Brown.

He also loves working with Kimberlin Brown

Brown originated the role of Sheila Carter on The Young and the Restless in 1990. Two years later, the character crossed over to The Bold and the Beautiful. Kanan said that as a person, Brown is actually one of his favorite people to work with, professionally.

“She is terrific. I love working with Kimberlin,” he said to the outlet. “It’s this crazy, unlikely friendship, and she is an actress who likes to take chances, which is something I’ve always liked. That’s what I like to do, too. We are just having a great time together.”

But while Kanan said that he loves Brown, as a person, he doesn’t exactly have a love for her character, Sheila Carter. In fact, Kanan has a little bit of advice for one of his castmates.

But he has advice for Ridge — “I’d get a shotgun”

As The Bold and the Beautiful fans are aware, Brooke is in a bit of a love triangle thanks to a drunken night with Deacon. Sure, they didn’t go “all the way,” but they did enough that Brooke fell off the wagon and she’s terrified of losing Ridge.

But fortunately, Kanan has some advice for his on-screen rival. “Playing these scenes, I look at Thorsten [Kaye, Ridge] and I’d be like, ‘I’d get a shotgun [laughs].’ That’d be me, but I completely understand Ridge’s blatant apprehension and wanting Deacon to leave now,” he said.

That said, he’s looking forward to exploring the Brooke and Deacon love story on future episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful. “I think the connection between the characters is still strong and we are able to, not re-create it on screen, but reach back to the history and tap into that. Deacon will always carry a torch for Brooke, and there is no guile or subterfuge involved at all. In his mind, she is the one who got away and he has always loved her. It is 100 percent justified,” he said.
