For weeks, the singer and the Duchess of Sussex’s meeting was the talk of social media, as many considered it the most perfect encounter to ever happen between celebrities.
But there was one small detail about their exchange that went over many people’s heads — and it had to do with Bey, her dress, and her brilliant creativity.

When Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z met Prince Harry and Meghan at the London premiere of Disney’s live-action The Lion King remake, it was truly a historic moment.
Though music royalty meeting real-life royalty only lasted for a few minutes, the encounter made waves on social media. It was not only a big deal to fans but to Beyoncé as well.
In videos from the meeting, the Duchess of Sussex could be seen in a beautiful black dress while greeting those involved in the film. Once she got to Beyoncé, who was wearing a gorgeous gold gown, both women couldn’t keep the smiles off of their faces.
To fans, it seemed like the two women had known each other for years as they chatted. But much to our surprise, both Beyoncé and the Duchess of Sussex were actually nervous about meeting each other.
Since she and Jay-Z had previously honored Meghan in their acceptance speech at the 2019 Brit Awards, one can assume the singer wanted to make a good first impression.
But according to her Lion King co-star Billy Eichner, the Queen Bey’s nerves got the best of her, and she accidentally broke royal protocol because of it.
Though pre-premiere instructions advised those meeting Prince Harry and Meghan to call them “your royal highness,” Beyoncé panicked and went off-script when the two women were introduced.
According to Eichner, she referred to Meghan as “my princess” instead, which the Duchess of Sussex didn’t seem to care about one bit.

Following their encounter, small details about Beyoncé and Meghan’s first meeting began coming to light.
In addition to insiders revealing that the two women talked about parenting during their meeting, eagle-eyed fans also pointed out the last-minute dress hack Bey pulled off right before exchanging pleasantries with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Basically, the “Crazy In Love” singer used her purse to cover up the high slit on her stunning gold gown during the entire interaction.
It’s likely the reason Bey made this move was to show respect to the royal couple while in their presence.
While there’s no official dress code that those meeting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have to follow, Bey sneakingly covering up her high slit goes to show just how much she admires and respects the royals.
