Claire Foy won an Emmy for Guest Actress of ‘The Crown’

Foy played Queen Elizabeth II for the first two seasons of The Crown. Fans watched her character become a queen through her performance.

Foy had a short appearance in season 4 in the episode “48:1.” The episode starts with the queen back in 1947 in South Africa giving a speech. The speech was on her 21st birthday and her speech is about uniting the commonwealth and moving forward together.

The flashback scene ends almost five minutes into the episode. The rest of it shows the family later where Olivia Colman is playing Queen Elizabeth II.

The academy nominated Foy as a guest actress at the Emmys for this short scene. She was up against Sophie Okonedo for Ratched, Alexis Bledel for The Handmaid’s Tale, McKenna Grace for The Handmaid’s Tale, and Phylicia Rashad for This Is Us.

Foy won the Emmy, which is now her second award. Her first win was Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for the same role.

The news is out that Foy has won an Emmy for her latest appearance. Fans shared their reactions to the win on Reddit

“Mixed feelings. Yay for her, she’s fantastic. But that guest appearance was like 2 minutes, she read a speech, interacted with no one, it was more comparable to a voice-over than anything, I dunno,” one fan wrote.

“Oh I have no mixed feelings: she’s a good actress, but the win feels a bit condescending [sic]. Maybe I was super biased because I was rooting for another actress in her category to win. But this felt strange,” another fan wrote.

“Is this a joke? How was that seconds-long cameo even nominated? This is a joke,” another fan questioned.

But other fans were much more supportive. “So deserved,” one fan wrote. “so proud of her.”

“She’s phenomenal. Even with so little screen time, she brought so much nuance to the role that I had been sorely missing with Colman,” another fan wrote.
