‘The Cuphead Show’ follows brothers Cuphead and Mugman

Cuphead became a surprise hit upon its release. The indie run-and-gun game takes inspiration from 1930s Fleischer Studios animation, offering unique and eye-catching visuals to go along with the captivating gameplay.

The story follows two brothers named Cuphead and Mugman, a set of anthropomorphic drinkware. Players must survive several levels and boss fights to repay Cuphead and Mugman’s debt to the Devil.

Now, the video game adaptation will follow Cuphead and Mugman on new adventures in their hometown, Inkwell Isles. Netflix describes the series as a “character-driven comedy” where Cuphead and Mugman often get into trouble, but “they’ve always got one another’s backs.”

How many episodes are in ‘The Cuphead Show’ and when will they premiere?

Netflix’s The Cuphead Show trailer offers a glimpse at Cuphead (Tru Valentino) and Mugman’s (Frank Todaro) various mishaps, including their run-in with a dangerous carnival called CarnEvil. In addition to the brothers, the trailer introduces characters like the Devil (Luke Millington-Drake), Ms. Chalice (Grey Griffin), King Dice (Wayne Brady), Elder Kettle (Joe Hanna), and Ollie Bulb (Jim Conroy).

According to IMDb, The Cuphead Show will have 12 episodes. And none of them are very long — each episode clocks in around 12 minutes. So, it should take about two and a half hours to binge the entire season, making it a quick and easy watch.

For now, fans only know of the CarnEvil storyline, which looks like it will take place in episode 1. However, the titles for the next few episodes have also been released, teasing what to expect. Here are the episode titles we have so far:

  • “CarnEvil”
  • “Bringing Up Baby Bottle”
  • “Ribby and Croaks”
  • “Dangerous Mugman”
  • “Sweet Temptation”

As seen in the trailer, all 12 episodes of The Cuphead Show will drop at once on Feb. 18, 2022.

Many fans have wondered what The Cuphead Show means for the future of the franchise. Will there be another season, or will Cuphead get a sequel?

Only one season of The Cuphead Show has been announced so far. And as for a sequel to the game, Cuphead co-creator Chad Moldenhauer said in 2019 that he didn’t have much planned. A Cuphead DLC called The Delicious Last Course is scheduled for June 2022, so the developers seem to be focusing on that.

“We’re pouring our hearts into making sure it’s a new Cuphead adventure that fans will love, and don’t have any other announcements to make beyond that right now,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

The Cuphead Show arrives on Netflix on Feb. 18, 2022. Stay tuned to Showbiz Cheat Sheet for more updates.
