The Devastating News Prince Charles Gave Princess Diana the Night Before Their Wedding That Almost Made Her Leave Him

Princess Diana and Prince Charles' relationship and divorce has been a source of public interest for decades. Now, news has come out that Prince Charles said something devastating to Diana before their wedding.

Some people think that Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s relationship was doomed from the start. Though Charles was in love with his current wife Camilla Parker Bowles before he even married Diana, many royal fans were under the impression that Charles and Diana were at least in love during their monumental wedding. But a new revelation from Diana’s astrologer, Penny Thornton, she reveals that wasn’t exactly the case.

Charles wasn’t in love with Diana

It was clear that by the end of their marriage, Diana and Charles were at odds, but up until now, not many people knew that their marriage didn’t even start out with love.

In ITV’s new documentary The Diana Interview: Revenge of a Princess, Thornton revealed the awful thing that Charles said to Diana before their wedding.

“One of the most shocking things that Diana told me was that the night before the wedding Charles told her that he didn’t love her,” Thornton said. “I think Charles didn’t want to go into the wedding on a false premise. He wanted to square it with her and it was devastating for Diana.”

The information was so hurtful to Diana that she almost didn’t show up to her own wedding.

“She didn’t want to go through with the wedding at that point, she thought about not attending the wedding.”

Prince Charles wanted to marry Camilla

Charles met Camilla before Diana and was in love with her. He originally wanted to marry her but his family didn’t think she was a good fit for the crown. When Charles went away to serve in the British navy, Camilla got engaged to Andrew Parker Bowles. By the time he returned, she was married.

Infidelity on both parts

It is widely known that both Diana and Charles were unfaithful to one another during their marriage. In her 1995 BBC interview with Martin Bashir, Diana even admitted to being unfaithful and credited Charles’ affair with Bowles as leading to their eventual divorce.

“Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded,” she said.

Despite all of the trials and infidelity, Diana would have stayed in the marriage if Charles was willing to work on things.

“Given the choice, she would have stayed and tried to make a happy marriage,” Princess Diana’s personal trainer, Jenni Rivett once said. “She loved Charles … she was sad about it. She wanted to be a loving wife.”

How did the royal family feel about the divorce?

Prior to her infamous “crowded marriage” comment, even members of Charles’s family were on Diana’s side.

“As the couple’s marriage began to crumble and her increasingly erratic behaviour threatened the image of the monarchy, [Prince Philip] tried again to help, setting up a highly personal correspondence with her and explaining that he understood the difficulties of marrying into the Royal Family,” an excerpt from Ingrid Seward’s new book Prince Philip Revealed obtained by The Daily Mail reads.

But after Diana’s famous interview, her fate was pretty much sealed. The queen wrote Diana and Charles a letter advising that they get a divorce and “be done with it.” The two divorced on August 28, 1996.
