Some fans are confused about the way ‘The Umbrella Academy’ ended

“Can we talk about how Umbrella Academy Season 3 ended?” a fan shared on Reddit. “I don’t understand how Luther came back un-monkey,” another Redditor commented. “And I feel like Five should have not been a child still. I need to rewatch it but that’s what I remember. Edit: also … them all losing their powers. I don’t fully get it.”

Fear not, TUA fans. We’ve got an explanation for all of It.

‘The Umbrella Academy’ Season 3 ended with the Hargreeves siblings in another new timeline

The Hargreeves face multiple problems in season 3 of The Umbrella Academy, including a Kugelblitz gradually swallowing up time and space. “Oblivion,” the season 3 finale, opens with Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) and the remaining Umbrellas and Sparrows in the other side of the White Buffalo Suite. He killed Luther (Tom Hopper) and left Klaus (Robert Sheehan) to get Kugelblitz-ed in the previous episode.

Believing Reginald is up to something, Five (Aidan Gallagher) pieces together drunken memories to reveal Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) made some kind of deal with the old man. Wanting to get back to her daughter, she agrees to help him reset time and space.

Allison and Sir Reginald’s plot to reset the timeline comes to fruition at the end of season 3

Throughout the season, Allison is desperate to get back to her daughter, Claire (Coco Assad). However, in the new timeline, Claire doesn’t exist. When she discovers “ringing the seven bells” can right the timeline, she partners with Reginald to change it.

Gathered in the lobby of the hotel, Reginald has the children stand on the sigil in the floor, a metaphor for the seven bells. When they do, beams of light connect them and existence starts to break down. The energy surge seems to be draining the seven superhero siblings of life to power the hotel’s hidden time machine. Realizing this, Allison kills Reginald, but presses the machine’s glowing red button despite her siblings’ pleas not to.

Suddenly, the Umbrellas, including Ben (Justin H. Min) emerge into Obsidian Memorial Park. The universe seems to be normal, except Luther’s wife Sloane (Genesis Rodriguez) is missing and so are the Umbrella’s powers.

The only thing seemingly right about this timeline is Allison’s wish coming true. She returns home to find her daughter and Raymond Chestnut (Yusuf Gatewood), her husband from The Umbrella Academy Season 2, waiting for her.

Reginald Hargreeves and Allison Hargreeves both wanted to bring people back

All Allison wanted was to get back to her daughter. Seeing Ray again was an added bonus.

However, she wasn’t the only one who wanted to see a loved one again. As revealed in season 3, episode 9, Abigail Hargreeves, Reginald’s one true love, was being kept in a cryogenic chamber on the moon, which Luther spent years unknowingly protecting. Like Allison, Reginald wanted to reset the timeline so he could restore the universe and bring Abigail back to life.
