All good things must come to an end. The same is true for limited television shows. Like WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was over almost as quickly as it started. But, there is hope that fans could revisit this story with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Season 2.

How did ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ episodes end?

*Warning spoilers for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ahead*

Episode 6 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ended with Sam, played by Anthony Mackie, officially accepting his new role as Captain America. The final scene featured Sam and Bucky having a sweet moment with Sam’s friends and family. The scene was originally meant to be a much grander ordeal, but ultimately, director Kari Skogland decided to go with the scene that was filmed during their first week of shooting.

“It was sort of an impromptu thing,” Skogland told Collider. “We had planned a much bigger version of it, and then we sort of scaled it back a bit. And I thought, well, let’s put a community together and kind of jazz it up a bit.”

Inspired by the scenery, Skogland just happened to put the shot together.

“I saw this great sunset, and there we were in this great setting,” she said. “And I thought, ‘Let’s grab this.’ But I didn’t know whether it would stick because it was quite early on to be shooting the end shot of the show.”

How the ending resonated with fans

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier broke away from the norms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it tried to tackle the stresses and nuances of being a Black man in America through Mackie’s character, and what it would mean for a Black man to become Captain America. Though these were big themes to cover, audiences followed along.

“I’m pleasantly surprised at how well people are responding to the themes and the topics that we really embedded in the storyline,” Skogland said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “That was the most important thing for all of us making the show, was that there was a really great water cooler conversation that was happening at the same time. Of course, with the twists and turns that we were building in, that water cooler conversation was even more pronounced.”

Will there be a ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ season 2?

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s premiere episode was the most watched premiere in Disney+ history. And even though the season is over, fans aren’t done with the storyline. Next, Mackie will star in a Captain America movie written by Malcolm Spellman, according to ET.

As far as a second season of the show, Mackie says he hasn’t heard anything about that.

“Never believe the headlines is all I can tell you,” Skogland added. “As you well know, you never know from Marvel what they’re going to do next. So, it’ll all be a surprise.”
