Wyatt Russell plays John Walker in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier follows Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and his journey of accepting the role of Captain America. At the start of the series, Sam donates the shield that Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) gave him in Avengers: Endgame.

The U.S. government gives Russell’s character the shield and gives him the title of Captain America instead. From the start, it is clear that John is not the best person for the job.

When John’s partner Lemar Hoskins/Battlestar (Clé Bennett) is killed by Karli Morgenthau (Erin Kellyman) in the fourth episode, John snaps and kills one of the Flag Smashers in retaliation.

Together, Sam and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) reclaim Captain America’s shield from John. The U.S. government also formally removes John as Captain America because of his actions.

After his title as Captain America is removed, John meets Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and he takes on the title of U.S. Agent.

Wyatt Russell did not get recognized by fans of ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’

On Late Night with Seth Meyers, Russell shared that he has not been recognized by any Marvel fans since The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiered. He credits this to the fact he has a beard while John did not have a beard in the show.

“I’ve seen you with a beard in acting roles, so at least you must be slightly anonymous because you’re walking around with a beard you don’t have in the show,” Meyers said.

“Nobody knows. It’s amazing… I have not been recognized one time… Not one time. I can go anywhere,” Russell said.

Wyatt Russell was not recognized while at the beach

While speaking with Meyers, Russell revealed that on a recent trip to a crowded beach, no one recognized him as an actor from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

“I went to a beach the other day and I was like, you know, it’s a huge show and I get that a lot of people are watching it,” he said. “And I admit, I like my anonymity. So my fear is that you’re going to walk into a place and you’re not going to be able to observe what’s going on. It’s part of my job.”

Russell continued, “I went to a beach called Paradise Cove, which is in Malibu… And I was kind of nervous. Like ‘Oh man, I don’t want to do this. Might kind of end up not so good.'”

According to Russell, no one approached him. This made Russell think that everyone either dislikes his character and did not want to talk to him or beachgoers did not recognize him.

“Either I’m like terrible and everyone hates me and no one wants to come up to me to say ‘Hello,’ or nobody recognizes who I was,” he said.

All six episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are available to stream on Disney+.
