The Flash Season 6 has taken several dark emotional turns that continue to affect the characters in the back end of the season. Barry and the team have gone through the wringer, and based on what the showrunner says, there are more threats just around the corner. With that in mind, here’s a breakdown of where the heroes stand and what the showrunner has to say about their fate.

The Iris situation

For several episodes, The Flash’s better half, Iris West-Allen, has been trapped inside a Mirror Dimension with an evil metahuman. Even worse, a mirror version of Iris has been gallivanting around in the real world pretending to be her.

Unfortunately for the reporter, her friends, family, and husband don’t have her investigative skills. Although her little brother Wally did notice that something was off about his sister while he was visiting, no one has a clue that Mirror-Iris is an imposter. Luckily for fans, it appears that this thread may be tied up by the end of the season.

Team Flash will face ‘tragic consequences,’ says the showrunner

TVLine caught up with Eric Wallace, the executive producer and showrunner for The Flash, to dish about the Iris situation. Fans already know that Mirror-Iris and her newly created ally, Mirror-Kamilla, are up to no good. As the end of the season approaches, TVLine asked Wallace if Barry will figure out that Mirror-Iris is not his wife. The media outlet quoted him as saying this:

“Yes — and the audience won’t have to wait until the end of the season for this to happen… However, there will be tragic consequences to learning the truth about Mirror-Iris…Consequences that will send the season in a new, even more dangerous direction for Team Flash.”

Team Flash has thwarted danger before

Each season of The Flash culminates with big battles, high stakes, devastating losses, or all of the above. Eobard Thawne and Savitar were no match for the team, and neither were Zoom, DeVoe, or Cicada. Even Flashpoint didn’t tear the group apart, regardless of Barry’s reckless use of time travel.

In fact, when the heroes face adversity and cooperate, they typically manage to prevail and become stronger together. But in the back half of Season 6, Team Flash has been somewhat fractured. They are still raw from the events of Crisis, and the hits just keep coming.

On top of the emotional repair they need to do, the Speed Force has died. Because of this, Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin are preoccupied with building a new one so Barry can retain his super speed. So it’s no wonder they don’t realize that both Iris and Kamilla have been body-swapped by mirror versions of themselves.  In other news, Ralph is off hunting for Sue, the jewel thief, and presumably has no clue of what is happening at S.T.A.R. Labs.

The Flash viewers will have to wait patiently to find out how the rest of the season and the finale will play out. In the meantime, fans can revisit all of The Flash’s previous finales on Netflix.
