‘The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’: Ryan Reynolds Says Samuel Jackson ‘Was Eased Out of the Womb’ Saying ‘Motherf*cker’

The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard has been distinguished by the large number of expletives it contains. Samuel Jackson is well known for using profanity in many of his films, but even he ends up using far more swear words than viewers are used to hearing. Reynolds is also infamous for cursing a lot in Deadpool, but he was personally moved by Jackson’s affinity for swearing. In fact, he joked that Jackson came out of his mother’s womb saying his most famous curse word, “motherf*cker.”

Ryan Reynolds, Salma Hayek, and Samuel Jackson have excellent on-screen chemistry. All three of the talented actors star in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, the sequel to the 2017 action-comedy The Hitman’s Bodyguard

Reynolds and Hayek discussed their profanity-laden new movie, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard during a recent interview with BBC Radio 1. Reynolds noted that the film has far more swear words than any of his previous work, even Deadpool

“More than Deadpool, this has got a lot more swear words than Deadpool,” Reynolds said. “In Deadpool, at least it’s mostly just Deadpool swearing. In this, it’s [Salma], it’s Sam, to a less extent, me. But wow. There’s a line in the movie where I say, ‘Your mouth needs an exorcist,’ and that’s a true story.”

Ryan Reynolds says Samuel Jackson was born saying ‘motherf*cker’

Later in the interview, when discussing Jackson’s natural inclination to curse, Reynolds joked that he believes Jackson was born saying “motherf*cker.”

“I think swear words were added though,” Reynolds said. “I feel like Sam was eased out of the womb saying that one particular swear word, which is a terrible thing to say as you’re exiting a parent.”

Salma Hayek had to practice cursing before she filmed scenes with Samuel Jackson

However, even though cursing comes easily for Jackson, his co-star Hayek needed a bit of training before filming began. In a separate interview with Jimmy Fallon, she admitted that she had to practice her curse words in the mirror before working with Jackson.

“Well, it’s fun, but it was very intimidating in the beginning,” Hayek told Jimmy Fallon. “I was like Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver, in front of the mirror practicing my ‘mother—’. Because I had to say it in front of him a lot of times, and it’s quite intimidating.”

Unfortunately, Hayek’s new cursing habit didn’t stop once filming wrapped. Later in her interview with Fallon, she admitted that she can’t stop cursing around her daughter.

“I have to be very careful because I still have a little bit of Sonia that comes out here and there. And I have my daughter, and one time I was just—she just went, ‘Mom!’ And I said, ‘Oh, it was not me, it was Sonia.’ So now I use it every time that I say something that I shouldn’t say. I just say, ‘It was not me, it was Sonia.’”

The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is now playing in theaters.
