The Judds will sing ‘Love Can Build a Bridge’

According to Taste of Country, Naomi and Wynonna will sing their 1990 hit “Love Can Build a Bridge.” It will be Wynonna’s second time performing at the CMT Awards. The first time, she did a duet with Kid Rock in 2011. Naomi has presented at the awards, but “Love Can Build a Bridge” will be her first time singing on stage.

The Judds will be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in May. They join other inductees Ray Charles, guitarist Pete Drake, and drummer Eddie Bayers. The CMT performance will kick off the celebration for The Judds.

The Judds debuted in 1983 with the release of “Had a Dream (For the Heart).” By 1990, they were country music stars with 14 No. 1 hits. Songs like “Mama He’s Crazy,” “Have Mercy,” and “Girls’ Night Out” proved to be what country fans wanted, launching the family act into superstardom.

On Oct. 17, 1990, Naomi Judd stunned the industry and fans with news that she was retiring at 44.

Naomi stepped away from the spotlight, and Wynonna became a solo star

Naomi Judd retired due to being diagnosed with Hepatitis C, a disease that affects the liver and can cause potentially life-threatening side effects. The Judds played what was billed as their final show on Dec. 4, 1991.

Wynonna then went on to find major success as a solo act. Wynonna’s debut single, “She Is His Only Need,” hit No. 1 on Billboard Charts.

Her self-titled debut album sold over 5 million copies. Singles “I Saw the Light” and “No One Else on Earth” also hit No. 1. Wynonna was a star, but her mom was never far from her mind or heart. The Boot reports that Wynonna sent a note along with her CD to radio stations. After introducing herself as a solo act, she added, “my only need is for y’all to play it because I have a mom to support. So thanks.”

The Judds have since reunited for shows in 1999, 2000, 2010, and a nine-show Las Vegas residency in 2015.
