Season 5 of The Last Kingdom will unfortunately be the last season of the hit series. It’s still a hard pill for fans to swallow. However, season 5 is yet to come before it’s all really over. Luckily, fans have been recently treated to content surrounding the series from the actors and even a director.

Jon East, a director for the series who has directed episodes in previous seasons and who will also direct in season 5, recently shared some behind-the-scenes images from the Battle of Beamfleot. We have all the details to know.

Director Jon East shared behind-the-scenes photos from the Battle of Beamfleot in ‘The Last Kingdom’

The Battle of Beamfleot took place within episodes 5 and 6 of season 3 between the Saxons and the Danes. On August 3, 2021, East shared some behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram from filming the infamous battle. In the first image shared, Alexander Dreymon can be seen dressed as his character Uhtred and his hair back with what looks like blood and mud on his head and face. Other warriors can be seen standing nearby, and a white screen can also be seen hanging up in the background. Even Ewan Mitchell, who plays Osferth, can be seen as well dressed as his character wearing robes and armor. There’s mud underfoot as well.

Next, we see other warriors as well as regularly dressed people surrounding what looks like Dreymon as Uhtred from behind with his sword drawn against another who has his sword in the air. Again, mud can be seen taking up a good majority of the shot.

Next is a shot of a pair of shoes and pants covered in mud surrounded by more mud. Then the next image shared shows what looks like Danes with furs and weapons as some sit.

The last image is Mark Rowley as Finan smiling in warrior attire with what looks like blood on his face. Warriors can be seen behind him over a blue sky filled with clouds.

East captioned the post: “For the audience it was the snow battle that bridged episodes 5&6 of TLK3. For the cast and crew involved I suspect it’ll be more likely remembered as the freezing mud battle! 😉.” He also included some hashtags as well with the post.

The official social media channels have been sharing looks at the characters ahead of the new season. Uhtred’s was the first shared on June 16 on Instagram. The image has the name of the show at the top right of the photo. Uhtred can be seen in the middle, complete with a sword on his back. He looks serious in the shot as he looks off, and his hair, which is short on the sides and longer on the top, is up and back out of his face. It looks like he has a braid in it, and his hair seems a lot longer than the last time we saw Uhtred in season 4. He’s in a shirt with warrior attire on as well.

At the bottom of the image, a quote from Uhtred can be seen. “’If I die, I will haunt you to the end of your days…’ -Uhtred,” it says.

Alexander Dreymon is tagged in the image on Instagram, and the post is captioned, “It’s time to look ahead… The journey continues but who will join the quest and who will fall? #thelastkingdom #TLK5.”

We’ll have to see what else is shared before season 5 of The Last Kingdom finally premieres.
