‘The Last Kingdom’ season 5 has finished filming

The news dropped on June 22, 2021, that filming for season 5 has finished. Jon East, one of the directors for season 5 and someone who has directed previous episodes, shared the news via social media, including Instagram. In the post, a clapperboard is being held by a hand, and it has the name of the series on it as well as the date June 21, 2021. Jon East’s name is also on the clapperboard as well as the director.

East captioned the post revealing the happy news: “It’s most definitely a wrap!!! As of last night, TLK5 is in the (digital) can. Phew! That last block – eps 9&10 – was an absolute monster, a BEAST, which eclipsed in complexity and scale anything else that I’ve directed on this amazing show since I first helmed episodes back in 2016. If nothing else, I can at least reveal that the show’s last season is going out in truly EPIC style! Big thanks here to the remarkable team that worked with tireless devotion to make it so, you are all stars! Respect.”

The official social media accounts for the series also shared the news via East’s posts.

‘The Last Kingdom’: Fans Weigh in on the Death That Changes Everything

A few days ago, fans saw a glimpse of Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) in season 5 via the official social media accounts. An image of Brida was shared on June 21 from the new season, and it’s something fans will want to see. In the top left corner, the name of the series is shown. Brida can be seen in the middle of the image looking off, as it’s a photo of her from the side. Her hair is done up with different twists in it. Material is weaved in her hair, and she has what looks like a small animal’s skull at the top of her head in the front. She has cuffs on her ear, and she has on fur and a brown ensemble. Two other people can be seen in the background, although they are out of focus.

There is a quote at the bottom which says, “’The reckoning approaches. The gods are speaking…’ – Brida.”

The post is captioned on Instagram: “Everyone is on a journey, but what does Brida’s future hold? #thelastkingdom #TLK5.” Emily Cox’s account was also tagged in the post as well.

Brida in ‘The Last Kingdom’

Brida was a Saxon child when she was taken in by the Danes. She becomes lovers with the main character, Uhtred, at one point, and they grew up together. But their relationship is more than complicated. In season 4, Brida holds a grudge against Uhtred for not killing her when she is found by the Welsh in battle, as she thought she would then go to Valhalla.

Brida is taken as a slave, and it’s an extremely hard time for her. But she is rescued by Sigtryggr (Eysteinn Sigurðarson), and finds herself allied with him when and they invade Wessex, taking Winchester. But Sigtryggr eventually comes to an agreement with the Saxons, taking Stiorra (Ruby Hartley) with him as a stipulation for him leaving Winchester and being given possession of Eoferwic.

Brida finds herself face to face with Uhtred, and she fights him, but Uhtred allows her to leave, and she goes into labor with Cnut’s (Magnus Bruun) child before the season concludes.

It’s an exciting prospect to see Brida in season 5 of The Last Kingdom. Hopefully, fans won’t have much longer to wait to see the all-new season now that filming for season 5 has concluded.
