The hit series The Last Kingdom will conclude with the upcoming fifth season. Filming just finished in Hungary, which is an exciting prospect for fans. The official social media channels have recently been sharing glimpses of characters in season 5, including Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) and his daughter, Stiorra (Ruby Hartley). Fans were recently treated to a look at a new character, Father Benedict.
‘The Last Kingdom’ season 5 has finished filming
The news recently came out on June 22, 2021, that filming for season 5 of the series has officially finished. Jon East, one of the directors for season 5 and someone who has also directed previous episodes before, shared the news via social media, including Instagram. In the post, a clapperboard can be seen in a hand. The clapperboard has the name of the series on it as well as the date June 21, 2021. Jon East’s name is also on it as the director.
East captioned the post revealing the news: “It’s most definitely a wrap!!! As of last night, TLK5 is in the (digital) can. Phew! That last block – eps 9&10 – was an absolute monster, a BEAST, which eclipsed in complexity and scale anything else that I’ve directed on this amazing show since I first helmed episodes back in 2016. If nothing else, I can at least reveal that the show’s last season is going out in truly EPIC style! Big thanks here to the remarkable team that worked with tireless devotion to make it so, you are all stars! Respect.”
The official social media accounts for the series also shared the news via East’s posts as well.
Get the first official look at a new character, Father Benedict, in season 5 of ‘The Last Kingdom’
Of course, with a new season, it makes sense there will be some new characters thrown into the mix. According to Deadline, Father Benedict is “a holy man with a troubled past.” Patrick Robinson is Father Benedict in the last season of the series.
On June 30, fans were given their first look at the new character via the official social media channels. In the image shared, the name of the series is seen in the upper left corner. Father Benedict can be seen wearing robes and a cross necklace around his neck. The character also sports a beard. At the bottom fans are given a quote from the character.

Fans recently received a glimpse of Uhtred in season 5
On June 16, 2021, fans got an official look at the main character, Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), in season 5 via the official social media channels, including Instagram. The image has the name of the show in the top right of the photo. Uhtred can be seen in the middle, and he has his sword on his back. He is looking quite serious as he looks off, and his hair, which is short on the sides and longer on the top, is up and back out of his face. It looks like he has a braid in it, and the hair seems a lot longer than the last time we saw Uhtred. He’s in a long-sleeved shirt with warrior attire on as well.
At the bottom of the image, a quote from Uhtred can be seen. “’If I die, I will haunt you to the end of your days…’ – Uhtred,” it says.
Alexander Dreymon is tagged in the image on Instagram, and the post is captioned, “It’s time to look ahead… The journey continues but who will join the quest and who will fall? #thelastkingdom #TLK5.”
It’s always nice to see images of characters ahead of a new season. We’ll have to see what else is shared before season 5 of The Last Kingdom is released.
