Numerous fans took to Reddit to ask where Uhtred’s third child is in season 4. Viewers may recall that Uhtred’s wife Gisela (Peri Baumeister) died giving birth to his youngest son, although there was no mention of him in the all-new season. It left some fans perplexed and quite frankly, annoyed.

In the new season, fans get to meet Uhtred’s two oldest children who are now teenagers, Young Uhtred (Finn Elliot) and Stiorra (Ruby Hartley), but it still leaves questions regarding the third child.

Where is Uhtred’s missing son?

The executive producer of the series, Nigel Marchant, spoke with RadioTimes.com during a live question and answer segment about season 4. He says that there were a lot of new characters this season and only 10 episodes.

“I think we’re always conscious about bringing in new characters – and there’s an awful lot of them within this season – and there’s a lot of younger characters coming in,” Marchant explained. “Obviously, we only had 10 episodes and so many hours and so many storylines that we could really push through.”

Since there is so much going on in season 4, it makes sense some things wouldn’t be considered as important as others. Not to mention the writers didn’t want to “cheat the audience” from ample time with their beloved favorites and the new characters in the mix.

“So there was a conscious decision about who we really wanted and who is propelling the story along,” Marchant continued. “We didn’t want to cheat the audience by not meeting the characters and going on a journey with them. There’s a lot of characters in any ensemble piece and that means there’s a lot of mouths to feed for the writer.”

We might see Uhtred’s youngest in the future

They made choices this season and with so many new characters, including Uhtred’s two oldest children, it would have been impossible to add so many new characters and give them enough screen-time to move things along in the overall story. It sounds like we might see Uhtred’s youngest son in the future though, which would be nice for eager fans.

“So, we really felt that we were introducing Uhtred’s two children, we also had Aelfwynn and Aethelstan who were caught up in all the action, and just that it would be one character too many,” Marchant said. “We don’t like to deviate from the books, we like to keep the characters and the essence there, but sometimes it just doesn’t work. But that’s not to say that we couldn’t see them in the future.”

Fans are hoping to see all of Uhtred’s children in the future and it sounds like they might.
