On March 7, 2022, the first Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 announcement turned 1000 days old. And even after all that time, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, BOTW 2, or Breath of the Wild 2, an official title still has not been announced by Nintendo. Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch OLED users are itching for more news about the Link and Princess Zelda adventure. However, all they can do is count the days.

‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2’ has gone 1001 days with no official title since announcement

When fans first brought Link out of the Shrine of Resurrection to look out over the Great Plateau and Hyrule, they could not wait to explore every inch. And then they did. They scoured every part of Death Mountain, Zora’s Domain, and Gerudo Desert for secrets, Korok Seeds, and more.

After Link defeated Calamity Ganon and the Blights, fans could not wait to see what came next.

The Nintendo E3 2019 revealed Breath of the Wild 2 on June 11, 2019. Or they announced BOTW 2. Or ‘The Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.’ No one was sure what to call it. They did not reveal an official title for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 at the time.

And Nintendo has revealed very little information since. Nintendo Life video producer Felix Sanchez noted on March 7 that 1000 days after the first announcement, the game still had no concrete title.

Nintendo has trickled out games like ‘Skyward Sword HD’ and ‘Link’s Awakening’ since the original ‘BOTW’ release

The company trickled out a few Legend of Zelda games and re-releases in the five years since the original BOTW. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Nintendo Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, and the addition of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask to Nintendo Online have all cushioned the wait.

However, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, whatever the official title is, remains the main event.

Even smaller announcements seem to have dried up for the Nintendo series. The February Nintendo Direct came and went with hardly any mention of the flagship franchise.

The rhythm game Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival added an orchestral version of the main theme. And that was it.

Fans hope that the wait for even an official title for ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2’ nears its end

Nintendo has shown that they want to stick to the 2022 Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 release date. However, fans worry that they still do not even have an official title for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.

After several delays, fans have started worrying if BOTW 2 will even release in 2022. And 1001 nights after the initial announcement, it feels like both a much longer and shorter time.

“It’s a frightening number, though,” Nintendo Life notes. “And the only consolation we have at the moment is that the game should, in theory, release at some point in the next 299 days, before the end of 2022.”

At the time, fans can only wait to see Link and Princess Zelda go against Ganondorf again.
