Princess Zelda, Mipha, and Link make up a traditional love triangle in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However, that means Link ends up with either Mipha or Zelda, while the other has a more tragic love story in BOTW. So does Link love Mipha or Zelda in Breath of the Wild? While the Master Sword wielder does not show much expression in the Nintendo game, plenty of hints exist for players to know how the Mipha, Zelda, and Link love triangle ends.

Mipha and Link started as childhood friends 100 years before ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’ started

In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC, “The Champion’s Ballad,” Nintendo revealed more details about Urbosa, Revali, Daruk, and Mipha. It even featured cutscenes, letting players see Mipha’s brother as the adorable baby Sidon.

Mipha’s diary in Zora’s Domain helps to understand the past she had with Link. Mipha, Sidon, and King Dorephan first met Link at only four years old when he first came to Zora’s Domain in BOTW. YouTube channel NintendoBlackCrisis breaks down a lot of the evidence.

The Link and Mipha age difference might seem odd, but since Zora mature slower and live longer in The Legend of Zelda series, Nintendo has shown some Hylian and Zora pairings like this before.

Mipha and Link share a connection early on, and Mipha’s Diary mentions that Link visits Zora’s Domain several times growing up after obtaining the Master Sword. However, after Link rescues Mipha from a Lynel attack, she falls in love with the hero.

After King Rhoam assigned Princess Zelda her escort, she got more time with the hero

While Mipha and Link shared a childhood love, Mipha developed more romantic feelings toward the hero after the Lynel attack. She started creating a ceremonial garb for Link, the Zora Armor, looking similar to its appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

According to the game, female Zora have a unique white scale. They use it to create a special Zora Armor for their future husbands. Mipha uses her Zora scale to make this armor for Link.

However, Mipha laments in her diary that after King Rhoam selected Link out of all the Hyrule warriors to accompany Zelda as her escort, she and Link rarely saw any alone time.

Before she could give Link the Zora Armor, the Great Calamity occurred. Mipha died fighting Waterblight Ganon, only reuniting with Link as a spirit 100 years later. And fans do not even know if Mipha’s ghost could appear in Breath of the Wild 2.

For Link and Mipha, ‘Ocarina of Time’ Sage Princess Ruto has a tragic love story that mirrors theirs

While it seems that Nintendo crafted the Princess Zelda, Mipha, and Link love triangle for BOTW, it has its roots in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Like Mipha, Ocarina of Time Sage Princess Ruto falls in love with Link in the Nintendo 64 game. Ruto gives him the Zora’s Sapphire after he rescues her. She tells Link that her mother instructed her to give it to the man she would marry.

However, like Mipha and Link, Ruto’s love was one-sided in The Legend of Zelda game.

And Mipha even compares their story to Ruto from Ocarina of Time. However, even if they were in love, she ultimately died during the Great Calamity.

Sadly, it seems that Mipha and Link were always doomed to have a tragic love story in Breath of the Wild.
