‘The Mandalorian’ adds this fan-favorite character

The first season of The Mandalorian premiered back in November and received high praise from critics and Star Wars fans alike. The cast and crew filmed season 2 at the start of the year, so production was thankfully not delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Disney has been very mum about what’s ahead, but we can confirm several casting additions. According to Slash Film, this includes Katee Sackhoff, who is playing the role of the warrior Bo-Katan Kryze in season 2.

The Battlestar Galactica star voiced the character in the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and in Star Wars Rebels. Although Lucasfilm has not confirmed the casting, several sources have revealed that Sackhoff filmed her scenes in February.

For those who did not watch the animated series, Bo-Katan was a leader of the Mandalorians and once possessed the Darksaber. In the season 1 finale of The Mandalorian, Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) gained control of the iconic weapon.

We do not know what The Mandalorian has planned for Sackhoff’s character, but hopefully she will fill in some of the gaps in Mandalorian history, including what happened during the “night of a thousand tears” and the “purge of Mandalore.”

This major star has been added to season 2

In addition to Sackhoff, Deadline reports that Justified’s Timothy Olyphant is set to appear in season 2 of The Mandalorian. Although Olyphant’s involvement has officially been confirmed, it is unclear who he will play in the series.

As if that isn’t enough to get Star Wars fans excited, Rosario Dawson has reportedly been cast to play the part of Ahsoka Tano. The character is part of The Clone Wars series and was previously voiced by Ashley Eckstein.

It is important to note that Disney has not confirmed Dawson’s casting. According to Entertainment Weekly, Dawson recently teased her involvement in the project and made it sound like it is only a matter of time before something official is announced.

“That’s not confirmed yet but when that happens, I will be very happy,” Dawson shared. “I’m very excited for that to be confirmed at some point.”

With filming for season 2 already complete, Dawson likely finished her scenes a few months ago. The project is currently in the post-production phase with the entire team working on it remotely.

Apart from Sackhoff, Olyphant, and Dawson, Temuera Morrison is joining season 2 of The Mandalorian as Bob Fett. Michael Biehn (The Terminator) has also been cast to play the part of a bounty hunter.

What’s ahead for season 2 of ‘The Mandalorian’?

Disney has been very secretive about releasing plot details regarding the new season of The Mandalorian. Aside from the exciting casting news, not much is known about the main storyline or where things are headed.

With fans eagerly waiting to learn more, Sam Witwer, who voiced the part of Darth Maul, recently opened up about the upcoming season. According to Screen Rant, Witwer teased that season 2 is going to “blow people’s minds.”

“There are things that [Dave Filoni] has coming in The Mandalorian Season 2 that are going to blow people’s minds. Because the thing is that Dave and George always had the same instinct when it came to this,” he stated.

Witwer did not reveal anything specific about the new season but it definitely sounds like Filoni has some big things in the works. While Witwer is a well-respected voice in the Star Wars community, he has never played a live-action role in the franchise.

He has, however, done voice work for a variety of Star Wars projects, including Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Clone Wars, and Star Wars: Rebels.

Season 2 of The Mandalorian is set to premiere on Disney+ in October.
