Will there be a ‘Mandalorian’ Season 3?

Yes! The Mandalorian Season 3 is officially in the works at Disney+. Variety revealed the series was renewed for a third season in the spring of 2020, before the premiere of season 2.

According to a report from Screen Rant, the cast and crew wrapped production on the third season in the spring of 2022.

‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 Releases in February 2023

At Star Wars Celebration 2022, Disney announced The Mandalorian Season 3 premiere is scheduled for February 2023. Disney did not share the exact release date yet.

This is a little bit later than fans of the series were expecting, but it makes sense when you look at the timeline of Star Wars shows coming to Disney+ in the next few months. Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on May 27, followed by Andor starring Diego Luna on August 31. There’s a gap there for another Star Wars series before The Mandalorian Season 3. Perhaps, we’ll see The Bad Batch Season 2 during that time.

Giancarlo Esposito said the new season of ‘The Mandalorian’ is coming this summer, but others disagreed

Recently, there was some controversy about when the third season of the series would premiere, thanks to some comments by Giancarlo Esposito, who stars as Moff Gideon.

Esposito, who stars as Moff Gideon in the series, recently revealed The Mandalorian Season 3 is coming to Disney+ in the summer of 2022 on The Rich Eisen Show, according to the Screen Rant report.

“I got a little, few things to do in regards to that, to put some finishing touches on what I do, but I believe it will be sometime this summer,” Esposito said. “No date set yet, but coming soon.”

Unfortunately, the internet disagreed with Esposito about the release date for the new season. TV Line reported it was looking like a “Christmastime” release for the third season. Steven Weintraub of Collider tweeted that season 3 would be released at the end of 2022, not this summer.

In hindsight, it looks like Esposito was likely referring to the news about The Mandalorian Season 3 release date being announced in the summer of 2022, not the official release of the season in the summer of 2022.

‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 cast

Although there was some confusion about when The Mandalorian Season 3 premieres, there’s much less confusion about who is going to be in the new season.

Pedro Pascal returns as Din Djarin for season 3, along with Esposito and Carl Weathers. Grogu, the character, is also expected to return for season 3.

At the time of publishing, it’s unclear if Katee Sackhoff, Ming-Na Wen, or Rosario Dawson will be back, according to Digital Spy. The trio played Bo-Katan, Fennec Shand, and Ahsoka Tano, respectively.

Christopher Lloyd joined the cast of season 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Who Lloyd plays in the series remains a mystery.

Gina Carano, who played Cara Dune, will not return for The Mandalorian Season 3. Carano was fired from the series.

At the end of The Mandalorian Season 2, Grogu and Din Djarin officially part ways. Grogu leaves with Luke Skywalker after Din Djarin rescued Grogu from Moff Gideon and won control of the Darksaber.

Now, Din Djarin possesses the Darksaber and the power to unite the Mandalorians, but will he? That’s likely where we’ll see the story move in the third season. Pascal hinted at bending “the way” in future seasons.

In the finale, Mando and Co. defeated Moff Gideon, but Gideon also escapes. We know Esposito will be back in season 3, which means Moff Gideon’s plans are far from over.

The Mandalorian Season 2 finale ended the arc of the series so far, but in doing so, it opened the door for so many possibilities. There are many questions about where the story goes from here. Unfortunately, we have no answers at this point.

The post-credit scene also previewed The Book of Boba Fett with Boba Fett and Fennac Shand on Tattooine.
