The Mandalorian is known for its compelling characters and stories that always keeps Star Wars fans on their toes. Few people would have been able to predict the show’s narrative path heading into the series. They also wouldn’t have been able to predict some of the characters that have popped up.

Plenty of new (and existing) characters are rumored to appear in the show in season two. There’s one character in particular that Star Wars fans are looking forward to, so much so that one said they were “cautiously optimistic” about it. So which character is it?

One of the hallmarks of the series is its ability to constantly produce surprises. The storylines and plot of the show itself are hard enough to predict, but fans also can’t tell what kind of Star Wars Easter eggs are going to pop up. They’ve seen plenty of familiar background characters, scenery, and sound effects reminiscent of the Star Wars they know and love.

The show has also done a great job introducing really shocking reveals. A few examples include:

  • The appearance of “Baby Yoda (aka The Child) in the series premiere
  • The “dark saber” wielded by Moff Gideon, a weapon that’s a known Mandalorian artifact
  • The appearance of a certain renowned bounty hunter in the season two premiere

One character from the original Star Wars trilogy has already shown up in season two. In the first episode, Mando is drawn to Tatooine after another Mandalorian warrior is reportedly sighted.

It turns out to be a man named Cobb Vanth, simply wearing Mandalorian armor he found. After Mando helps Vanth dispatch a krayt dragon, he lives up to an agreement between the two to turn over the armor to Mando. As Mando is leaving, we see a strange-looking man watching him go. This man is played by actor Temuera Morrison, the performer who played Jango Fett and later, the voice of Jango’s son Boba.

This was a big deal for the series, as The Mandalorian was largely inspired by the popularity of Boba Fett. Now it appeared as though he was showing up here. While it’s a monumental moment in Star Wars history for the original trilogy to link up with Mando, it’s not the only character fans expect to make a reappearance.

Star Wars fans took to Reddit to talk about their excitement for season two of the show. One poster commented on the longstanding rumors that Rosario Dawson has been cast as a returning Star Wars character: former Jedi Ahsoka Tano. Here’s what they had to say about the potential appearance:

“Yeah, I’m cautiously optimistic to see live action Ashoka….I know the voice won’t be the same, but I think as long as the writing still feels like Ahsoka, and as long as Rosario Dawson can get the mannerisms and delivery relatively close [The Clone Wars] and Rebels (the latter especially), I think it can work great.”

Fans are a bit conflicted here. They love the character of Ahsoka and Dawson is certainly a talented and more than capable actor. But it will be the character’s first live-action portrayal and fans are used to the animated versions of the character.

It all depends on how the show’s creative team decides to use her. How will the show move Mando’s story forward while also drawing on Ahsoka’s rich back story?

Only time will tell how the character is used, but fans of The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Mandalorian are all watching closely in anticipation.
