For fans of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, there are plenty of reasons to love the show. Between the talented cast and gorgeous cinematography, the show is a delight to experience. Because the show is considered a period piece, it also boasts some truly stunning costumes. The outfits that Midge Maisel wears are particularly gorgeous and the hit Amazon comedy has earned several Emmy nominations and wins because of the brilliant costume design.

Because the costuming is so specific to the time, outdated outfits and accessories are often used on the set of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. One of the costume pieces used consistently onset is a corset. In fact, in an interview with W Magazine, Rachel Brosnahan (who plays Midge Maisel to perfection) revealed that she even has a corset named after her.

‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ boasts outfits that are true to the time period

“For The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel I have to wear a corset,” Brosnahan shared about the many outfits that she wears on set. “But, fun fact about the corset, I used to wear a corset that was called the Krakowski because it had originally been designed for Jane Krakowski. And this season now we have the Brosnahan which was designed in Paris, so I have my very own corset now,” the actor revealed.

Of course, it took some time for Brosnahan to get used to wearing a corset of any kind, regardless of if it was named after her. In fact, while she was filming season one of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, all she could think about was the discomfort she was feeling thanks to the restrictive attire.

“At first, when we first started shooting the first couple episodes of the first season, I felt like I couldn’t think about anything but the fact that I was in a corset,” the star of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel shared. “I couldn’t move I couldn’t breathe I couldn’t eat. And I got used to it over time which is sort of disturbing but also great,” Brosnahan confessed.

But, despite the discomfort that the corset and other aspects of her outfits, Brosnahan admits that she does find them helpful with it comes to helping her get into character for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. “Between the corset and the petticoats and the tights and these beautiful, beautiful costumes and hair and makeup I feel completely transformed when I walk out of the trailer and that’s my favorite part about being an actor,” the House of Cards actor shared.

According to Brosnahan, the outfits also help her to combat her ever-present nerves. It may be hard for fans of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel to believe, but the actor actually experiences terrible stage fright, especially when she has to film a comedic set. However, her corset and other pieces of her wardrobe help her to transform into an alter ego version of herself.

“I’m still nervous every single day,” Broshanan admits about filming The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. “Comedy is horrifying. It’s absolutely terrifying. It’s the worst thing I could possibly imagine anyone doing to themselves. It’s a stage of fright like I’ve never experienced. It feels like a little bit of a Sasha Fierce thing you know. I do a lot of power posing in my dressing room in my corset and petticoats by myself sort of trying to draw the confidence from somewhere.”
